Description
Gooper is a creature known as a Revirus, a mass collection of disease, microbes and parasites that have formed a single consciousness. Reviruses live only to spread sickness and disease, using their foul fluids and sickly forms to bring upon plagues. Gooper follows this drive just like the others, but with a slightly different motive. To Gooper, giving people the flu or a fever is all well and good, but he wants more than that. He wants to be remembered. To be in the history books. Gooper wants his name next to ones like Bubo and Chole, remembered as one of the world's most devastating pandemics. He dreams of the day when kingdoms will fall to the spread of Goopulerosis (He's still working on the name.), and works eagerly to make that fantasy come to life. There is one problem though, and that is the fact that Gooper really isn't good at creating diseases. The body of a Revirus is a teeming colony of microbes and bacteria, with the power to randomly mutate their forms and change their effects. Reviruses can even absorb other bacteria from the environment to add to their own vile concoctions, mixing them in and mutating them to create new diseases and new symptoms. Gooper's mutations, though, don't seem to be working. This could be a result of his young age, or that he is a novice at the whole thing. Regardless, his attempts to create the next famous plague only seem to leave people with nasty head colds or mild fevers. But Gooper has come up with ways to learn what he is doing wrong, and how to gain the skills required to spread the ultimate disease.
- Attitude - Gooper is 100% committed to improving himself in order to bring the next pandemic. It is all he cares about, and honestly, all he talks about. Regardless if they are healthy or ill, Gooper can talk one's ear off about his big plans. Even when alone, people can catch him daydreaming, or trying to come up with a fitting name for his future plague. To him, diseases are like popularity contests, the harsher the illness, the more famous one is. When he isn't doing this, Gooper is doing the one thing he is most famous for: handing out questionnaires. As a brewer of sickness, and a bad one at that, Gooper is looking to see what he is doing right, what he is doing wrong and what can be improved. As a result, he hands out questionnaires to any sick person he can find, just so he can see how the latest batch is going. Even if the person is not sick by his own devices, he gives them the surveys regardless, as he wants to see if he should collect fluid samples to add to his personal cocktail. He seems completely oblivious to the suffering of others, and seems bewildered when people refuse to fill out the forms. But that won't stop him, as he will offer to ask the questions, so that the person doesn't need to bother with pencil and ink. And if that fails too, he will ask if he can just sit and stare at them, so that he can try to gauge what symptoms they are suffering from. Due to the fact that Gooper's mouth is made of filth and disease, he talks with a wet, sloppy lisp. Any time his speech involves the letter s, folks should be wary of the gunk that flies everywhere as he talks. It's kind of gross.
- Relations - Gooper is a friend to the Knights of the Wrong Table, having come across them at random once. Seeing an audience of many different species, Gooper saw them as the perfect testing ground for diseases. It took some time for the order to convince him to stop infecting everyone, and to instead just study members who got sick naturally. The two came upon a partnership, using Gooper as an informant. He already travels around the land and thus could stumble upon scenarios where the order could help. This is vital to the order, as no villages want to contact them when a problem arises, so they essentially have to invite themselves. The agreement is if Gooper comes across one of these situations, he will go straight to the order and tell them. In return, Gooper can study any member who is sick, and is allowed to interview them to his heart's content. If he has really been helpfully, then he gets to infect someone with his sickness and see how his current batch is going. The order pretty much pulls straws when that happens. Of all the members in the order, Gooper is obsessed with Telnus, as he is a walking pile of waste and filth. Gooper sees him as the perfect source of new bacteria, and often tries to nab a sample from him. As is Telnus' nature, he absolutely despises this, as he not only has to deal with an annoying Revirus who won't shut up about how he is a "thpectacular, thpewing thack of thcum" but also the fact that Gooper is a constant reminder of his condition. Whenever Gooper appears at the headquarters, Telnus does his best to not be around, even if he has to make something up.
- Abilities - As a Revirus, Gooper is literally made of sickness, and is able to spread it through his slime. Coming in contact with his gooey parts does not guarantee illness, as it is all a factor of one's immune system, the amount of goop that is touching them and for how long. Depending on what disease is in his body, he may be able to only infect one species, or several. His body constantly mutates this sickness into different forms, changing its symptoms and contagiousness. For Gooper, though, the worse thing he can make so far is a pretty nasty flu. At the very least, he can give someone a simple cold. He is made entirely of thick slimy and viscous fluids, which allows him to alter his body and slide through small openings. His form is capable of floating much like a ghost, allowing him to fly through the air with ease.
- Tools - The only tool Gooper carries with him is his clipboard, which holds all of his surveys and questionnaires. He always has this, as he wants to be prepared for when a sick person comes his way. The questionnaires he hands out are always changing, as he thinks of new questions to add or remove. Most of these questionnaires ask for some pretty gross details, and it is guaranteed that every survey will eventually ask about the state of one's orifices.
- Weaknesses - As a mass of microbes and bacteria, Gooper is vulnerable to anything that would harm them. Freezing and desiccation is a worry, so anything involving extremely high or low temperatures will hurt him. The other thing that can harm him is any substance used for sanitation. Soap is his worst enemy, capable of burning him on contact. Anytime there is a bar of it in the room, he treats it like a loaded crossbow. Anyone approaching him with it will cause him to flee screaming, usually spraying fluids everywhere.
Note: From what others have picked up in conversations with him, Gooper does not appear to be his full name. During grand moments, or emotional tangents, Gooper will occasionally state a strand of initials and then the name "Gooper." It is almost as if it were a last name. No one can figure out what the initials stand for, as he is constantly changing them, even in the same conversation. It will go from "Fear not! D.F Gooper ith on the cathe!" to "Tho thayeth G.W.D Gooper!" It's a mystery to everyone, and if anyone asks, he just tells them to call him Gooper.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found out Gooper has gotten zero love from me since his initial drawing, so I had to make up for it. I know a virus is not a microbe, but I couldn't come up with a better name.
Interestingly enough, Gooper is meant as a humorous character, with his strange quirks and ways. But if he were to succeed in fulfilling his dream, he would literally be killing hundreds. Just an odd realization.

I love the whole questionnaire bit, adds a nice additional bit of flavour to an already interesting character concept.

Thanks! I do really enjoy that bit as well! It seems a lot of fun to me, and I love the idea of trying to get customer reviews about diseases.

Really cool. I had a similar to this awhile back called Garbage Gooper that I never got around to drawing.

Thanks! I am trying to add more color to my stuff recently. But I only really color when I am 100% certain what the colors should be. So it will always be a variation between black and white, and color.

Reminds me of a cross between slimer from ghostbusters and germalady by scythemantis (you can find in my "ideas" fav folder).

He does look like he would be their son. Gooey, disease infused ghost. Slimer definitely was an inspiration for when I made him.
