It is well known that basilisks are dangerous creatures, with their bizarre oral eyes and deadly gaze. But what is also common knowledge is that these strange organs are quite valuable, and highly prized by the magic community. Basilisk eye is a potent ingredient in potions, a powerful material in rituals and the jelly within is vital in infusing equipment and talismans. Those who can obtain one of these eyeballs is sure to find many eager customers, but their value doesn't just come from their potential, as getting your hands on one in the first place is quite difficult. As already stated, basilisks are not easy to hunt beasts, wielding these strange eyes on top of claws, fangs and usually a nasty venom. Not to mention that the more potent of eyes are found in the more dangerous species and larger specimens. Fighting one is sure to be a terrible time, and unfortunately the goal of obtaining its eye makes this battle even worse. When normal slayers wish to dispatch a bothersome serpent, they are sure to take out the oral eye in order to stop it from using its powerful gaze. This strategy does not work when one wants the eyeball intact, so they must deal with its power during the whole fight and avoid popping it or damaging it in any way. Lastly, once the day is won and the beast is slain, there is only one eyeball to gain from the whole ordeal, unlike the many other beasts out there that normally have at least two. The difficulty in obtaining this organ makes for a high price, as customers throw money to get there hands on the few that are available. Obviously, if one could find a way to reliably harvest a consistent number of basilisk eyes, then they could make some serious coin. The problem is the ordeal it takes to bring one down, and the fact that the local basilisk population usually isn't large enough to support the idea of slaughtering them like cattle. However, when money is on the line, people start to get creative with their solutions...

To the fellow responsible for this creation, the answer must have seemed simple. People want lots of basilisk eyes, but there are only so many basilisks and each only have one eye. Obviously one couldn't just make more basilisks, as the common folk don't really like the idea of breeding more of these dangerous and destructive serpents. So if not more snakes, then why not more eyes? We get more meat from our cows by breeding them to be bigger and bulkier, so why not do the same with a basilisk? Unfortunately, usual breeding and rearing methods couldn't just cause more intricate organs to spontaneously appear, unless you added a little magic to the mix. It is no doubt that magical alterations were done on many basilisk specimens, as the unknown creator sought to grow more eyes. Who knows how many they went through before they created this one, or how many more they would have altered if they had survived this event. It seems that their experiments got out of control, and this one was able to kill the creator who tortured it so. Their life and lab was lost as this mutant broke free from its imprisonment and vanished into the wilderness. Some say it is this fool's greatest creation, but more tend to think this is the closest they got to their vision before their actions and experiments finally led to the obvious and fatal consequence.

Known by the people as the Oculisk, this warped basilisk haunts the land and terrorizes the locals. What was once a Grand Basilisk is now something much more, especially in the lethality department. Their crazed creator indeed succeeded in creating more eyes, but at the cost of pretty much everything. This creature is obviously disfigured and burdened by these growths, struggling to live a normal life. The numerous eyes causes it to shy away from the direct sunlight, as no matter which way it lays, one of these organs is getting blinded by the harsh rays. The overgrown cluster in its maw makes eating and swallowing quite difficult, forcing it to consume only fluids or very small mouthfuls. The many eyes also require nearly constant maintenance, since they are vulnerable to debris and dehydration, which means it spends a lot of time grooming and using its oral tendrils to moisten these exposed organs. All of this makes for quite the hassle in day-to-day life, but things are quite different when it comes to hunting and battle. Though these eyes can be sensitive, they still carry the power that is iconic to the basilisk. All of them do. To meet the gaze of even one of these eyes is to expose yourself to its power, whatever it might be. It turns out that the magical experimentation has greatly altered the abilities of these eyes, causing each and every one to have some random effect. Though Grand Basilisks are known for having a lethal gaze, it appears that nearly all of these eyes do not possess this same power. Those who have encountered this creature and lived to tell the tale always come back with different stories and experiences, usually rambling about another new ability that no one knew the Oculisk had. From all the horrible stories, it has so far been found that the Oculisk has eyes that can cause: blindness, vertigo, hallucinations, hypnosis, seizures, spontaneous combustion, petrification, nausea, intense pain, extreme terror and who knows what else. Some have even said that certain eyes can shoot out spells and magical projectiles, meaning that a simple blindfold won't completely strip the Oculisk of its power. Then there is the rumor that the Oculisk still has the lethal gaze that belongs to the Grand Basilisk, but in only one of its many eyes. The question is: which one is it? No one truly knows, and since most villagers and warriors turn tail and run when this beast is spotted nearby, it is obvious that no one cares to find out...
