Description
Master of riddles and scourge of the countryside, The Sphinx posts itself outside of villages and consumes the unfortunate inhabitants. Though perfectly capable of decimating its prey, it gives its victims a chance by offering a riddle. If the person solves the riddle, The Sphinx will allow them to live, but those who fail are killed and devoured. Its tentacles are tipped with poisonous bards that secret a paralyzing neurotoxin. After immobilizing prey, it tears them apart with the two toothy maws and feeds it to its four lips. It likes to nest right outside of one village and feed off the population, only leaving when the pheasants have fled or are all dead. The Sphinx can be challenged to a game of riddles, if the challenger wins, the Sphinx will leave the village and move elsewhere. If the Sphinx wins, then....well you know.Related content

Interesting creature. Can it be dealt with by conventional ways like hacking it apart with a sword or throwing a boulder on it's head?

Yeah, it can be brought down through physical means. But the venomous tendrils are a real bugger to get past.
Does bring the lovely mental image of it asking some complicated riddle, only to be cut off when it gets creamed by a boulder.

Yes, the poisoned tendrils made me think of using a boulder instead.
That's how i picture it:
"-What creature walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon...
- And what's the creature that stands upright inte afternoon and is flat in the evening?
- !!!! How dare you...
