i really like the depth and form that you get with the two tone colouring of your brother.

thanks, i'll post up the original colour version in scraps, without the paint daub effect. normally i'm against the cheap fast thing but it kinda worked here, i really like the way the red nose turned out actually, he likes his whiskay, though he sometimes dilutes it with bourbon, the cad.

that's alright. i'm still hardly a hard liquor guy myself. and i have yet to develop a taste for guinness either (which, i do of course, know is not a hard liquor, but i'm going along with the irish thing, not the liquor one), which shames both me and my irish heritage.

I personally have never gotten drunk. I know... damn it feels like the n-AA here. I think i'll do it in style for my 20th, a nice bottle of Bourbon and have a sit down and watch of Gerald McBoing Boing. ROWDY! Actually i was always intrigued but neglected to ask, where did ya get yer name from?

sounds like an awesome way to spend your 20th, i love that sound effect making sumbitch. especially when he went to planet moo.

actually i was referring to your fake name of Hallis Blaney, from whence does it originate? irish you were saying? OH planet moo, that was a delight.... now i'm all moist with anticipation.... errrr maybe wrong word...

Captain-Fabulous In reply to evomc [2005-08-21 05:39:30 +0000 UTC]
yeah, moist might've been a poor choice of words.
Hallis Blaney is my name, my parents gave it to me upon my birth. blaney is irish, hallis, i believe, is welsh, though, i am not. my parents just liked the name.

Yes... no doubt, quite an unfortunate word. ah! i mean ahhhh.... my first name Eimhin is welsh, albeit gaelified to the mazzle. God we're like twins or something. like that movie with the twins in it... you know the one i'm on about? the name escapes me. speed 2 i think....

Captain-Fabulous In reply to evomc [2005-08-27 20:32:11 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i'm pretty sure it was speed 2.
how do you pronounce Eimhin, i'm imagining it as Eye-min. but celtic pronunciation is something i have a hard time with. i mean siobhan? what the hell?

weeeeeelllll here's a note of referance: bh and mh in irish produce the same sound as the english v, so phoenetically my name would be Evan. i's and o's when put together tend to be slurred into the one vowel sound of a clipped u and s's tend to be pronounced with an h unless they are spelt with an h then the s isn't pronounced at all. so siobhΓ‘n would be shuvahn (the irish Γ‘ being elongated as in the french Γ‘, but not a nasal vowel) I failed it in "post-primary-pre-tertiary-school" cause i tend to use my own systems of reference and whatnot though, so this is all unofficial *wink*

aaah, i get cha. interesting. now whenever i write your name, i'll think of the right pronunciation, rather than eye-min.

hahaha. man, i feel your pain in the mispronunciation world. my name's spelled hallis and pronounced Hall-iss, but everyone reads it Hal-iss, or hey-liss. then throw the fact that i grew up around a lot of french canadians and you get alice.

it's on your user page. I've read sword of truth and wizards tear, me bro picked them up second hand. he's pretty good i must admit. just one thing, i was wondering did you notice about his stuff: i find that he can be overly epic, in that everything is the biggest or most dangerous thing to date, totally superceding what was formerly the biggest threat, it seems to loose scale and believablity if you know what i mean, and also a bit of its humanity. It might be a premature assumption from just reading two of his books. I really love David Gemmel's books i must admit, more my kettle of fish. very human characters, flawed in their own ways and i don't think that he takes himself too seriously. Now don't get me wrong, i was totally swept up in terry's books, it was just kind of an after thought. me brother's using up his money on gemmels gajillion books, now, so what with me just not really being a very big book buyer i was just wondering how you found his other books?

hmm...the longest reply from u ever lo0o0ol. k here goes:
yes, i forgot it was on my userpage. how dumb of me not to remember. So ur bro gave u terry's book to read.hm. interesting. Yes, I did wonder about that in some books but really, u sorta gotta look at it in general, like this: Does he writes stories and have it "to be continued" at the end of the novel and he wrote it so good that u have to read the next book? to me yes he did. But each book is unique in his own way, i am startin' to sense that he is changin' is writin' style a bit, i'm not sayin' that is bad but it is still a good book and i luv the main characters. they feel very human to me. Gemmel's books? Now that I'll have to look into. What is his stories about? never heard of him..

i get what you're saying. I'll probably check out his newer stuff at some point in the next few weeks. David Gemmel's a fantasy writer as well, his books are a series in a way, but they tend to span generations and across four or five different countries. the fact that in his first book of the drenai series, which is probably his most famous, he sends this character druss, whose this warrior type hero guy with a big axe, to his swan song type battle thing. He builds characters in their books but then down the line chronologically the characters in other books refer to their exploits as those of legend. because of this it feels very interconnected. The world he constructs just seems bigger, because it's not just the one set of protagonists, but any set from an time or place within his realm. They're really a worthwhile read, you should check out the librey for some copies.
