Description
This is a Timbavati White lion (Panthera leo krugeri). They have a recessive gene known as leucism not to be confused with albinism. There are approximately 30 known White Lions in the world many of which are located in zoos due to the high fatality rate in the wild. Here is a link for more information on these beautiful but rare beauties [link]I thought ^Ghouldaddy would enjoy this as I've heard he loves lions.

Oh, wow! I love his eyes! He's so majestic, and the odd eye coloring makes him look so intelligent (not that cats of all sizes don't always look intelligent).

The odd coloration of the eyes is caused by Leucism

Your animal work consistantly takes my breath away.
this is such a strangly placid peice. Everyone assumes that lions are this amazing powerful animals, but this captures a completely different side. He feels so wise, so noble.

It's nice to hear from you Keith. thanks for the comment. These guys are one of my favorites to take photos of at the Cincinnati zoo. I was going to call you up to see if you wanted to go but I was afraid it'd be too late of a notice..maybe next time.

Very nice. I like the composition. You could have just centered up the lion's head and made this just another boring lion portrait, but you took the high road and made it interesting and unique. Lovely.

Absolutely gorgeous, ewm. Automatic favorite.
I actually hadn't seen a male white lion before. ...I don't think. But I do recall seeing my zoo's females. Astounding animals.

At this particular zoo they have 2 males on display alternating with I think 2 females.

That's good. Makes it nice to see both genders. I like females more, though. I guess I just don't care for the male's mane. LoL I don't know. Still, your photo is fantastic.

You captured well the pride of the lion (cheesy line, couldn't think up anything else), looks quite good

Fantastic shot... you've captured the softness of the fur in an incredible, almost intimate way. That linear shadow on his mane to the left of his face is a bit distracting, but that's probably difficult to avoid since he's in a zoo.

White lions are one of my favorite rare breeds of large wild cats. I would highly suggest you look into the Strawberry Tigers if you think this one is beautiful [link] They are also refered to as Golden Tabbies or Golden Bengals. I have yet to see one in person

good to dodge eyes, you don't want the to see you.
I always forget which is dodge and burn, but its great on canadian geese sometimes too

they are darkroom terms. Dodge is when you keep light from hitting the paper(making it lighter) and burning is when you let more light hit the paper(making it darker).

i've used them a few times in PSP, but i prefer lighten/darken brush most of the time.
