Description
Here's my entry for Wen-M's weapon design contest (check his recent journal for details)This is a great-sword of roughly 5 feet. Its very light-weight despite its size, and is known as Volaticus, the "winged" weapon of speed and power. I'm not sure yet whether I'll color this or not. Lemme know what you think. Enjoy

That's the same sword you drew in with your Archangel Michael deviations, give or take a few design changes. Or it might have been that you made the sword first? I can't be sure.

It is a little different, but it came after the sword in the Michael painting. I modified that sword to be more a-symmetrical to see what it would look like

i really like the black and while feel. and your cleanliness is also to my liking. but somehow the balance of the design kept it away from being one of the finalists...

In the hopes of helping out a bit and hearing some critique myself, I figured I'd go through and comment on the other entrants to Wen-M's challenge and Welcome them to comment on mine as well.
A very slick design if a bit busy for my tastes. One thing that struck me instantly is with the hilt having that helix design one could stab it into something and make it spin with enough pressure along the inside edges. The winged motif suits the long light blade design but some of the detailing on the blade itself seem extraneous.
very cool though. Could certainly see it wielded by a heroic swordsman in a game or anime.

Thanks alot, I appreciate the feedback. I agree with you, I'm a bit excessive on detail sometimes, perhaps for the better or the worse depending each person's opinion. I like the simplicity and design in yours, but you've really thought it out and I commend you. I really just spent a few hours fooling around with the design until it was the way I liked. I wish you good luck in the contest and I hope you get some good feedback as well.
