Description
EDIT 1/16/14: Almost FIVE YEARS since I've uploaded this.. I've finally hit 1k faves! Hope it's been helpful!
Just a note, I've noticed some pictures of those who have done the tutorial and I'm seeing a pattern in accidentally having the fur go the wrong way on the ears. Make sure you get the fur fibers running toward the *pointed end* of the ear.. not toward the base. The pointy end of your ear should be seam ripped thus giving it a nice fluffy look at the ends!

The main thing with these ears is making sure the sides stay down against the head on all sides. Craft wire will help some with this because you can form them to drape over the round of the head.. Find whatever works!

The bobby pins are actually sewn to the ear by looping thread around the hoop part of the pin.. I sew the hoop quite tightly about twenty times around to make sure it stays good, and doesn't just slide off one of the ends. The pins can still move somewhat freely this way so I can adjust them as I like.
If you imagine the ear shape like an upside down "U", there is a pin at the top, and one along halfway down each side. The top pin I push through the top of my wig wefts horizontally, the two side ones go down the wig vertically. This keeps the sides down and the ears from moving about too much.

haha glad you approve! These work great with a wig.. but I never quite figured out a good way to wear them if you're using your real hair except a hair band... Hope they work out for you!!!

your tutorial is really good! but i'm a little confused with the hair pins though....can you explain to me please?

The hair pins will only work if you're wearing a wig.. I sewed three pins on per ear around the rim where it could be attached into the wefts of the wig. If you're using your real hair, this method probably won't work!

Yup. The important thing is keeping the ears firmly against your head rather than them bowing out.

i wanna make some how long do they take to make and can you just use a hot gule gun?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
exailious In reply to pjchick [2010-07-28 22:19:31 +0000 UTC]
They don't take long to make really.. I could make a pair in under 30 minutes with the materials in front of me.
Hot glue? I wouldn't recommend it because the glue wouldn't bend as well as fabri-tac will. Hot glue is more solid.

This is so awesome! I plan on using it for my sonic gijinka cosplay, but first, a question:
How did you get the ears to stay folded into the right shape?

exailious In reply to LORD-BIG-DOGGIE [2010-07-14 09:39:26 +0000 UTC]
That's the purpose of gluing craft wire into the ear. It lets you fold them as you'd like!

You're very welcome!
Be aware that the hair pin attaching method only really works if you are wearing a wig and press the pins into the wefts of the wig. Consider another method if you're using real hair!
