Heinrich Hitler was born on 14 March 1920 in Magdeburg, German Weimar Republic. Son of Adolf Hitler's step-brother Alois Hitler Jr, he was Adolf's favourite family member, and one of the only members of the Hitler family to be a dedicated Nazi.
He attended an elite boarding school, the National Political Institutes of Education (Napola) NPEA Anhalt in Ballenstedt. Upon completing his education there, Adolf wanted Heinz to pursue a career in the SS and aimed to make him his personal SS adjutant, an honourable yet relatively safe position. However, through his fanatic mindset, Heinz longed to fight on the Eastern Front and work his way up through the ranks of the Army. He joined as a signals subofficer serving with the '23rd Potsdamer Artillery Regiment' in the '23. Infantry-Division'.
Heinz was later captured by the Soviets on 10 January 1942 and tortured to death at the Butyrka military prison in Moscow on 21 February 1942, aged just 21. His death upset Hitler greatly, which apparently was one of the factors that led him to refuse an airlift of another nephew of his (Leo Raubal Jr.) out of Stalingrad (seemingly out of spite).
