Because of a felon's taboo.
But poor old Fred
Would not be dead
If he could use one too.

To me, it seems to represent gun control, i.e. the banana that the criminal is holding. The poem seems to represent this to me as well:
'Fred, Fred, lost his head' was shot, perhaps in the head?
'Because of a Felon's taboo' illegal weapon?
'But poor old Fred would not be dead if he could use one too' a gun for self-defense?
I may be waaaay off on that, but that's what it reminds me of.

I'm quite the little gun activist, so I had to post on this.
Out of curiosity, do you personally support or oppose gun control?

I oppose it for the most part. I think trying to take guns away is only going to make problems worse. I do, however, think it should be mandatory that you pass a test to prove that you know how to use a gun properly, as well as some kind of psychological exam, before you can actually come into ownership of a gun. That way, people that are responsible enough to have one can still have their guns for protection and the unstable ones will be better filtered out.

That's quite a bit like the views that I have. As I have said to many others: "If you make guns illegal, you're just keeping GOOD people from protecting themselves. Criminals...um...break laws...that's kind of what they do. And then there's no way to protect yourself."
And a psychological check would be a good idea.
