Description Here is my art outside assignment and my tribute piece to my dad....

I have a lot of things to explain here.

Firstly, it's based off of a show a bit called Dead Like Me. If you've never seen it, it's about a girl who becomes a 'reaper,' someone who must remove the souls from people who have died or are going to die, so that they can go on to whatever is next. When it is time for them to pass over or whatever you want to call it, a bright light appears in the form of whatever they really want or really love, and they run into it. Only the person it is for and the reapers can see it, and once they walk into it it goes away. None of the reapers know what it actually is.

I have found a clip which shows/explains that a bit, and explains the title as well. It was one of my favorite parts from the show and the song gives me goosebumps every time. [link]

My dad and I both really loved Star Trek and the future it predicts, and I think that if he were to see a light like that, this is what it would look like. I know that we both wanted to live in that future.

If you look closely, there is a figure standing 'next' to the starship. That's not an alien, it's a person. Anyone who knew my dad well should know who that is, who would be waiting there.

-Technicals of the piece-

The sky (minus the stars) and the tree leaves were done in acrylic (scanned in and edited), the starship is a photo of the model of the Enterprise NCC 1701-D from the Star Trek Experience that I took (before it closed T_T). And I added glowyness and changed the color a bit obviously. (It's the Next Generation ship)

The transparency of the tree leaves bothers me a bit but I may or may not fix that later.

--

Also, I wish to add that I don't see this actually happening for a while. He's still heeeerrreeee.

Mm...I think that's everything.

Star Trek/the Enterprise is Gene Roddenberry's.
Some of the idea goes to who created Dead Like Me...
And the art and everything else is mine. Do not steal, copy, or repost elsewhere without my persmission.

I love you Daddy T_T

The Enterprise would be a fine afterlife to go to! Though I would much prefer, the TARDIS!

what a wonderful tribute. great idea too! I've been a fan of trek since i was a tiny girl. I remember being little and seeing the pilot episode of TOS and asking my mom why those people had butts on their heads...lol....My fave "quotes" i guess you could call them is from star trek4..Spock is trying to use those "colorful metaphors"..."One damn minute admiral" and McCoy when he finds out he has Spocks katra..."That greenblooded sonofabitch, this is his revenge for all those arguements he lost!" lol....
BTW.....did you know Majel Roddenberry recently died?

haha, thanks

I got started watching Trek with Voyager, I was about 6 when I was watching the new episodes...and I got into the rest later. I guess I'm a lot younger than most Trek fans.

Yeah, I know...that's sad, I just saw her at the last convention. But she was sick, right?

majel roddenberry..after i posted, i felt kinda stupid because i didnt scroll down before i posted. if i had i would have seen you already knew about her. (can we say "duh?" boys and girls? lol) but yeah i think she had luekemia. but you know, she was like almost 80years old, so it wasnt like she was struck down in her youth. she lived a full and rewarding life and gave so much to all of us over the years. but i guess we all have to die of "something" in the end. The one i was really sad about was dr McCoy. I just loved him. My kids are trekkies also, my oldest one can tell you exactly what episode any trivia you throw at him came from. Once when he was about a sophmore in highschool he was cutting class and called in to excuse his absence using "Miles missed school today because he was seized by the pon-farr. unfortunately for him the clerk didnt recgnize it as an illness and called the house, got me and ended up getting caught. It was really hard to punish him because it was so funny.

Oh, yeah. With my dad, he was 47. A little younger...

I think DeForest Kelley died before I was even born...I know Gene Roddenberry did.

Haha! Pon-farr. That's clever.

Oh, really? I just saw her at the last convention...she did look pretty old.

I wonder how many other people would probably see a starship come down from the sky when they died?

When did Majel die?
