Description
You can download the full version if you'd like to actually read the small text...Another journal assignment from art class, this time the theme was your favorite song. I picked "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance, not because it's popular or because it's a good song, but because it actually has a deep meaning for me.
You know how my grandad died last school year? (November 2005) Well, I shouldn't have to say more than that, really...that song is like a symbol for me.
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me,
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated,
Your weary widow marches on
So yeah, I really don't feel like I should have to explain this one. But I will point out one part that people seem to miss. You can see my ribs and heart because it feels like something died inside of me. Everything else...yeah. Doesn't need to be explained.
I still have a hard time sleeping at night because I miss my Grandad so much...he was a really big part of my life. (and to those who saw me in art class the other day, nearly in tears...yeah, that's why. It just sneaks up and slaps me in the face like that sometimes)
Prismacolor pencils, Prismacolor markers, Crayola watercolors (XD anyone know of a better brand?), chalk pastels, cheapo poster paint, Micron pens, and whiteout. Inspired by, obviously, my Grandad, MCR, and Tim Burton 'cause he's awesome.
Sorry for the incredibly long description
character, art, ideas all © me.

I love MCR! I love Tim Burton! I this picture, it's got a lot of stuff going on, and yet no main distraction, which is brilliant, and I lvoe how you did it

Very nice, I like the way you are a slightly...maybe cooler color (for lack of a better term), you're blueish greyish, and everything else is black and red, I like how it contrasts. To me it kind of shows the fact that you are still in the realm of the living, but are, say visiting another realm...
Damn...I hope that made sense. Why do things always make more sense in your head?

You know what it made me think of? 9/11

huh, I didn't even think of that, but it would definitely apply. Anyone who lost a close family member in 9/11 would understand this too. I guess all the souls in the background could represent all who lost their lives that day too. I think I said this, but it can mean something slightly different for different people.

This is beautiful... D8
I can't relate to what this portrays really, but I love things that overflow with emotion, and this is just it. Wonderful use of different tools. ^_^

thank you so much!! I feel like this picture is so underappreciated (if that's a word...) because it means so much to me...everyone seems to like the really simple pictures in my gallery
Thanks so much for the fav!

Oh, bub...I can't believe this piece doesn't have more comments.
I'm in awe at the combination of medium you used and how you used them in the piece. I feel that it's a really bold move for an artist to use so many mediums in one piece, and it's breathtaking when done right like this piece.
Every figure is so well defined, the background gives an interesting effect with the way that it blends overall but is also divided here and there by the different colors and the textures from the water color effects on the paper.
The lyrics never had so much meaning for me until I saw this and saw the specific phrases you chose for the piece.
(And I'm familiar with the sympathy comments; a lot of the time they just make you feel worse for even longer. That's not what a piece like this is supposed to do. It's supposed to be an outlet for grief, not a conductor for more sadness. If only more people understood that. )
Brilliant work, bub! (I could probably write a senior thesis on this piece but I think I've rambled enough for one night! lol)

Aw, Craz, thank you so much
I thought the lyrics would have the same sort of meaning for you, too...not that many people understand. "Oh, I'm sooo glad I haven't lost anyone I'm really close too!"
Yeah, thanks, that helps a lot. I think that's why not as many people appreciate this as much as you do.
I was thinking about using this song for your contest, but I would rather do something happy and cheerful rather than something that would bring back painful memories. So many times I've listened to this song and nearly cried. I didn't want to do that to you.
The multiple medias I used is something that we do in art class. (can't remember if I mentioned that in the description or not now...) This one artist my teacher really likes does a lot of mixed media stuff, and she tries to get us to do that. In this case we had to do a mixed media style piece on our favorite song. I love these journal assignments, they make me put a lot more effort into my artwork.
Thank you so much Craz Now I know at least one person *really* understands this picture.

Great job! I liked reading the list of all the stuff you used and then figuring out where you used what. It's a good drawing (I use the term for lack of better word XD). It's cool that you were inspired by a song... that happens sometimes. ^^ I must ask, though, what the hell does Tim Burton have to do with this picture?
XD Just kidding! KEEP UP TEH SQUEEFUL WORK! PHIL AND ME COMMEMORATE YAHZ.

Tim Burton is like...slowly seeping into my artwork more and more...I've been leaning more toward a more stylized...style...trying to be less realistic and just draw HOW I FREAKING WANT TO DRAW -smacks all the people who complain about how everything I draw is skinny- So Tim Burton is like...well, one of my idols. And he draws unrealistically skinny things. So why can't I? And the sketchyness of the 'angel' was inspired by him too. ...just in case that was an actual question.
Haha, I guess that would be kinda fun XD I didn't use the markers for much, but everything else should be easy to figure out.

Wonderful work. It's very interesting looking, great use of color. I also had one extra thing to add. I noticed that this was a lyric from the My Chemical Romance song, and at first I didn't like that song very much, but when I saw this it got me to take a second look at it, and now it's one of my favorite songs. I kind've misjudged the lyrics. But anyway, great job and thanks for pointing me in the direction of a great song.

I tend to stray from what's popular a lot myself, and music is no exception. I did not want to like MCR just because it was so popular, but when I heard Welcome to the Black Parade on the radio for the first time, the lyrics really spoke to me. In the case of the song, it's talking about his father, but the meaning is still the same. I'm glad my artwork could influence you so much, it's a great song
Thanks so much for the nice comment and fav ^^

No problem. Actually you know what my real problem was I read the first few lines after the speach I saw the word "she" and I assumed it was some sort of song about a girl. Incredibly presumptuous of me.
Anways, you're welcome.

oh, I know what you're talking about. "Sometimes I get the feeling, she's watching over me. And other times I feel like I should go..." -has the whole song memorized- XD that's the only mention of 'she' in the whole song, though...and I'm not entirely sure which 'she' he's talking about. -shrugs-
