Description What are these strange creatures?... they are most definitely not ponies.

I know the whole "Day and Night" shtick has been done innumerable times between our two royal fair maidens (heh), but to see one that includes Twilight in the mix is a rare sight for me. It's even more rare that I see one with humanized artwork so I figured I'd have a crack at it.

I say it's a fascinating thought, imagining how these ponies would look and act had they instead been humans. Though I can't say I regularly have such thoughts... so yes, it is fascinating.

Gorgeous outfit on Luna!

Speaking as a white guy who has suffered more’n four decades of sunburns, it makes perfect sense for someone with aeons of solar exposure to undergo melanogenesis.

I only remember seeing one darkskinned Luna [link] but there are lots of pics where Twilight Sparkle has the darkest skin of the mane six, as is fitting for the pony that Equestiran cosmology will likely remember as the pony that stood `tween night and day and reconciled them both. Here are a few of those darkskinned Twilight gijinka works: [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link]

Interesting concept you have here, I mean, most of the time, when people "humanize" ponies, they draw then as white people, and in some rare instances, asian, but never once I have seen them like this, so kudos for that!

Thank you.

People have their preferences. It's terribly unfortunate that people in the fandom make a huff about it but to me in this case, skin complexion is simply another means of helping to redefine the character as a human. Take Celestia for example: her hide is white in the show, but to be frank, seeing a white human Celestia almost makes me laugh. Not because she's white, but because when I think of a person living thousands of years beneath the sun every day controlling it's path, the last thing that comes to mind is a pale skinned person. I think symbolically and logically it works better. Same thing with Luna, having spent so much of her time beneath the pale moon, it would logically give her very pale skin.

As for Twilight well, I think Mattatatta on ponibooru put it best:

"It is promised, that upon the dawn of a millenia of bitterness between Sun and Moon, a magic as strong as love shall be bestowed upon the twilight that exists between night and day. From then onward, the small and short-lived twilight shall bring balance, harmony, and a peaceful transition of power between the immortal Sunlight and Starlight."

I feel it would make for an interesting topic for discussion, but sadly I realize some people in this fandom just aren't cut out for it.

I agree it makes sense to associate the sun with dark skin, as those with dark skin are better suited to life in hot climates. Luna is up for debate a little more I think ,though stark pale colouring is natuurally more likely in a cold, or dark place

I also adore that association of Twilight with the two sisters, as it's so true in that she united the night and day again after all that time.

Also this is very pretty

Well, that way it makes a lot of sense your decision, too bad, as you pointed out, most wont accept it.

Now, that Mattatatta guy/gal truly knows what he/she is talking about, heck, it gives a whole new concept to the show itself, it makes me wonder if that is how Faust had it intended...

Back to the race thing, in the end, a mostly white fandom (I'm latino myself btw) will at best ignore this types of portrayals, and at worst, rage over them, and that is truly sad, since it does lead to some interesting discussions.

Yet in the end... they are ponies, and ponies come in all color of the visible spectrum.

I just realised this myself now it's been pointed out, but I generally have always pictured the ponies, if humanized, as white with the exception of Zecora, whom I pictured as black, and Twilight, whom I pictured Asian... but surely hat's just me enforcing another stereotype (it's an unfortunate assumption that people of asian decent are obsessive workholics with no concept of social life, which obviously ISN'T true for all ofthem, but I feel little sad, and honestly dissapointed in myself, that my brain automatically made such colour based asusmptions off the bat )

Don't blame yourself, its the culture that surrounds you that makes you think that way, I mean, most of the time in movies and TV programs the main protagonist are white, while only in the support character roles we have people of black, latino or asian (both western and eastern) descends.

Oh, and remember, an asian person is not only a Japanese or a Chinese, but also an Indian, Iranian, Russian and even Israeli On the stereotype itself... well, as horrible as this sounds, they exist for a reason, as I said this for first hand knowledge.

This is so, stereotypes by their nature result from common behaviour patterns that are actually obvious across many cultures, as interpreted by others. I'm british for example - we're regularly pictured as being sleek, sharp, pompous villains if we're male (and often femme fatele's if female) - lookat how many disney villains have british accents - Jafar, Yzma, Scar etc. And there are a variety of historical and psychological evidences to demonstrate why this could be that I'm not going into now - i'd take all day.

And also when you think about it - the work ethic of Asian cultures is not by it's nature a bad thing. NO stereotype nessecarily is, it depends on the situation and the usage. I don't think anybody questioned ther stereotype of the British stiff upper lip' when something actually goes wrong and we demonstrate why we HAVE the reputation.

Couldn't agree more.

And that's the thing, positive or negative, they always have backup, like we colombians that suffer for the drug dealers/smugglers stereotype; and as much as I hate it, our resent history keeps it alive.

I hear another stereotype is that you guys are great for parties, though, and love festivals That's cool. Quite at odds with stereotypes about the british - we're meant to be all stuffy and formal and proud It's funny how stereotypes can be a good thing sometimes, I think it's just important that we remember we're ALL so much more than the collectivee sum of stereotypes and what other countries think of us.

Yeah, that too

Indeed, a stereotype will never define an individual person!
