Description
I’ve just finished reading the ‘Peculiar Children’ trilogy by Ransom Riggs consisting of ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,’ ‘Hollow City’ and‘Library of Souls’ and very good books they are indeed with fascinating vintage photography used to illustrate the story of a children’s home trapped in a time loop in the 1940′s and its peculiar residents who wish to protect it from monsters.
I hope the film adaption does at least the story justice although I have already accepted the fact that a lot of the details have changed, the main one being that Emma has been swapped for Olive as the main love interest of Jacob’s (and Olive has therefore been aged up for the sake of decency) and I can only assume it is because air manipulation effects are cheaper and safer than fire effects… even though Emma is still in the movie but no doubt her screen time has been shortened. I suspect the ending is going to be different and more conclusive as well compared to the book which ended on a ‘to be continued’ because, you know, it’s actually part one of a trilogy and Tim Burton tends to avoid sequels if he can help it!
