Description
Decided to visit my high altitude areas again. This terrain I modeled in World Machine and exported it as a 4098X4098 terrain and textured in in Vue.If you're trying to get the cold feeling in your renders try setting your ambient/sunlight slider (in the lighting tab) to about 75% to the right... If it is too high the colour from the sunlight will be reflected in the snow, making in slightly yellow.
I'll be working on a jet animation for this in the next few days and hopefully come out with something that can be posted
Edit: Thanks to ^artofkerem for the Daily Deviation!

T__T I hope I can attain this render quality. I SSSSOOO want to use these kinds of images in my paintings. I can imagine such a scene being a wonderful backdrop for so many different things.

Awesome scene. I was actually trying to create a scene with snow. I have not did a scene using snow in so long, I can not remember exactly how to do it again!!

haha, yeah snow scene's are painful! mainly because snow is *millions* of little particles and in 3D we work with a single plane... it's not realistic so it is hard to pull off!

How do you get it to where the snow is layered so that it looks like a snow capped mountain from a distance?

That's a tricky one... a lot of it can come down to your texture filtering, if you have a detailed texture (suitable for closeups) and it is in the distance, you may have to use a lot of texture filtering to get it to look right...

bleh, sounds too complicated for a 5-10minute quick pic!!! lol I will do a quicky with one of my GC2 terrains and tell me what would work better.

Pretty good. But if you want extreme realism, try Terragen 2.

heh, TG2 is horrible to use tho, and it takes 10x longer to render images for the same result. I like some of the best stuff on their website but the things i've seen from the rest of the community is pretty lacking. That and the fact that Vue is used in production lines across the world, I haven't heard of TG2 being used so I don't think there's a reason to learn it really...
At the end of the day, it's just a personal preference I agree with you though, TG2 can produce stunningly realistic images.

Thank you I spend on average 6 hours a day doing this kind of 3D work... just experimenting and exploring. If there were more hours in the day I'd spend them doing this!
