I've gone for a totally different feel with this image and i would appreciate your comments/criticism as to whether i pulled it off or not!?I took the shot in raw using a canon 350d & "kit" 18-55mm lens with a +3 hoya close up filter.
I placed the rose next to a window with some diffused daylight coming in and using a reflector i bounced some natural light onto the other side.
Camera was mounted on a tripod and i fired the shutter using a cable release.

Raw conversion was done in lightroom, with the other changes done in photoshop.
To create this effect in photoshop i added a hue/saturation layer to deepen & desaturate the colour of the rose. Then i used the dodge tool around the edges to give a vignette feel.

Well, I think the lighting is good. It's soft and looks nice^^
And where did you get a lilac rose?
And it's nice how the middle of the image looks darker than the edges. makes a really nice effect

I didn't get a lilac rose, it started out as a pink rose.
I adjusted the tones in photoshop to create this effect.

Well you should be in luck as i'm planning a trip away soon.
Macro/still life photography is what really inspires me and it is something that i will be doing for the forseeable future. Besides how can i have achieved virtuosity in macro when i dont even own a proper macro lens?

Again very beautiful. Roses are my favorite flowers and you radiate the beauty of these flowers with this and of course with your other images again in skillfully staged . I love such images.
