No, carved and modeled first, then cast in some featherlite resin from smoothon. Featherlite is interesting stuff to work with; I had to use my pressure pot for the first time to get rid of the bubbles.

It sounds like really tricky material to work with. So regular Poly resin would be too heavy? I use the latter in my casting of eyes. I am always interested in newer methods in sculpts, and casts. I am fascinated.

Have you tried Sculpy Ultralight polymer clay? The consistency is smooth, easily carved when baked, and It really does float, as well as being very tough! I will be using it from now on to lighten up my larger sculpts It also makes a great Armature for smaller sculpts. (no more foil!) I love the stuff. It tends to get sticky, if your hands are too warm, but dunking it in cold water works well. "kinda like Apoxy-sculpt"
