Description Be sure to watch this video, and listen to the theme song:
Wonder Woman starring Lynda Carter, opening theme song and credits, 1976 .

Some of my other super hero / comic character artwork:

Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman information:

Media = Illustrator.

Tools used = pen tool; gradient mesh; pathfinder (divide); transparency panel.

Additional tools/features used within Illustrator:
I used some of Illustrator's blur filters in a few places, mainly blotches on the face and neck area, and on some of the jewelry.

The vast majority of the piece was created with the standard vector tools, however (such as the pen tool and gradient mesh, or regular gradients).

I try not to use the pixel-based type manipulation filters or features in Illustrator too much on any drawing I make in Illustrator.

One reason I resort to them at all is that getting isolated shapes to appear soft and fuzzy on top of gradient mesh areas (using blends, for example) doesn't work as well.

Blends that sit on top of gradient mesh areas stand out quite starkly, and even lowering their opacity in the transparency panel does not always work.

I used one of the patterns that ships with Illustrator inside the headband to add some texture.

Reference Photo

I created a variation of this drawing of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman so that it would look like it was printed in a comic book.

"Live Trace" was Not used in or on any part of the drawing

Thank you.

I have fun seeing if I can replicate certain textures and what all in photos I use as references, and the gold work on the bodice in this one was a challenge.

Thank you for the llama badge (I sent you one earlier)!

Sorry about the double ask, haha. I'm afraid it is hard for to me keep everything straight in my head when I'm replying to so many things at once. Ah but yeah, imitating textures like metallic ones in drawing is very difficult. I think you do a very nice job. The people and textures look practically photo-realistic.

What a blast form the past!
I grew up with this TV show and to me she was just amazing. How many girls my age that time were not spinning around and using clothelines for magic lassos!
This looks like a painting, and that expression reminds me of an old collector's photo I saw of her.
Thank you for sharing this!

Yes, I remember watching this show when I was a kid, too.

I was more of a tomboy when I was younger, and before this show, I enjoyed watching all the male super hero characters, such as The Lone Ranger, or Adam West as Bat Man.

When I saw this show, I was surprised that a woman could be feminine and tough at the same time. I remember in most episodes, Wonder Woman had to keep rescuing her male friend, too.

The drawing is based off an old photo. I placed a link to the reference photo below the drawing a little ways.

I did change a few things from the photo, like I removed a gap in her hair, added a highlight to her face, and removed a beam (or flag pole or whatever it was) that was behind her.

Otherwise, I tried to stay pretty close to the photo, because I wanted to see if I could accurately replicate some of the textures, like the gold on her bustier.

Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving a comment!

Yes! That's right. Poor Steve. That had to be hard to live down.

I must have missed that link.Or I didn't go down far enough. I think you did a great job on the gold. You are so welcome! I came by a very convoluted route. I think it was through a DD,then a group, and then I saw your picture!

Yeah, every episode Steve got tied to a chair, and if not for Wonder Woman, he would've been toast.

I was a fan of Wonder Woman through the 1970s TV show, but I didn't know a lot about the character beyond that.

After I finished this drawing, I got curious about Wonder Woman's background, so I looked up Wonder Woman on Wiki, and I found out that in some comics, she beat up Bat Man and Superman (she's stronger than Bat Man and able to defeat Superman). I was amazed by that.

Yes it's interesting what super heroes go through when they have different people behind the helm.

The reintegrating back into the earth thing really got me though!

Thank you for the kind words about the drawing, tbaneart.

I bet you can do a great job on a Wonder Woman drawing!

There is a new Wonder Woman TV show in production, and photos of the actress in the new costume were released last week... if you don't want to try drawing Lynda Carter, you could try the new actress (though I admit to not being crazy about the pants - the new costume has shiny blue pants! But the red bustier is cool.)

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave positive feedback about my art.

Nicely done and ignore bad critism cause some people only like a certain style or don't want their fav. messed with.

Thank you so much for the positive comments.

I'm still a little upset by the contributor at the one group who implied that I cheat on my art.

I uploaded screen captures of the files as they appear in Illustrator to prove that they're really my work.

But positive comments like yours cheer me up a little bit, thank you!

eyeqandy In reply to LeeAnneKortus [2011-02-21 00:40:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

It was very upsetting for someone to imply that I cheated on my art.

I almost do not want to work on any more drawings and upload them (it takes days to weeks to make a single detailed vector drawing) if people are just going to assume they're not really mine.

The group contributor seemed to suggest that someone else did the work for me, or the software made the drawing (or something of that nature), but I drew the whole thing myself using the pen tool and gradient mesh.

I uploaded screen captures to my gallery (in the "Screen Captures" folder) of the Wonder Woman drawing and the Gloria Swanson drawing as they appear in Adobe Illustrator so that people can see I really do make these drawings myself.

The contributor guy wanted me to provide video of myself working on my Swanson drawing to prove I really made it.

I don't know about you, but I never film myself as I'm working on my art.

Not to mention it's a little late for that, because I finished that drawing a few months ago.

eyeqandy In reply to LeeAnneKortus [2011-02-21 19:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I thought the video request was silly (and weird).

To an extent, I was a tiny, tiny bit sympathetic with the guy's request, because I've seen art on DA by other artists where I suspect "Live Trace" was used (but the artist acts like they drew the image themselves).

However, you can usually tell if Live Trace was used, because Live Trace leaves squiggly patterns and lines on the drawing, which my vector pieces lack (because I use the pen tool, not Live Trace).

That someone would accuse me of cheating by Live Trace (or whatever other method) is ironic, because about a month ago, I wrote a blog page at my graphic design blog against Live Trace's misuse and abuse.

The contributor also kept mentioning copyright concerns.

This was one thing I was ripped apart for by one college professor years ago, and it brought back bad memories (my art was picked on a lot by various art professors in my college days).

When I brought in my portfolio for the college professor's evaluation (per her request), she had a fit and was very rude towards me in part because some of my drawings (many of which are of old-fashioned movie stars such as Jean Harlow) are based off someone else's photos.

I told the professor,"Well, what do you want me to do, these film stars are dead, and I can't go back in a time machine and ask them to pose for me!

I happen to enjoy drawing famous people from the 1920s-1950s, and this is my personal portfolio that you're seeing only because you asked to see it. I'm not even showing it to other people.

I'm not going to get legal permission from some dead actor's estate for some little drawing I did for myself for fun.

If I was going to mass produce the drawing on posters to sell them to make a profit, I would certainly get copyright permissions from all the appropriate people, but these were just for my personal use." I told the Deviant Art group contributor that I'm willing to bet most of the art in his group's gallery (whether its celebrities or whatever subject) is based off someone else's photos, and I bet most of them did not get the photographer's permission first.

So I told him if he's going to be this incredibly strict over my art in regards to copyright, he is going to have to delete about 99% of the art by other artists in his group's gallery.

His level of strictness would also mean the removal of most DA art groups altogether, such as celebrity portrait groups, Star Wars fan groups, and the many Lady Gaga fan groups, where people do nothing but upload drawings of Gaga based off copyrighted Gaga photos constantly.

lol its funny. Wonder Women was an amazonian. Amazon means "of one breast" becasue they would sear off one breast so they could draw back a bow lol so she is officially inaccurate! good pic tho

I didn't know that. Live and learn!

Your timing is funny too, because a group just rejected another of my drawings in part because they believe it was too accurate (it looked too much like the reference photo it was based on, they said).

Thank you.

I watched both those shows when I was a kid, Isis and Wonder Woman. You can watch clips of the Isis show on You Tube, I just watched a few the other day.

I liked the old Adam West 'Bat Man' show too, but I appreciated that the other ones featured strong women.

It was a nice change of pace seeing ladies being tough and rescuing people for a change.
