f-a-d-i-l β€” Water lily - Prismacolor Colored pencil - layering

Description I thought of giving a try on layering several thin layers uisng prismacolor pencils. and my first attempt look like this! i havent used burnishing or any other blending methods or solvents here. This is very time consuming but gives a neat mat look Β 

time taken -- around 8 hours.

I like how it turned out, but I am surprised you didn't burnish it, given that petals are really smooth...

hehe, I was very busy these days. I liked to preserve that mat finish. I dont wanna get rid of that powdery look of the paper texture. Β and i am afraid i will ruin that smooth gradation of color when burnishing. I took hours to get that color gradations. and i read a colored pencil tutorial book by Ann Kullberg and she doesnt mention about burnishing at all. but her drawings are super cool and ultrarealistic. she only uses layering! someday i wanna draw like her

thanks for explaining stuff to me XD I really wondered about that...Β 

um... did you perhaps tried non wax based pencils then?
like the Polychromos (By Faber castell). they are oil based, so you don't get that waxy bloom, and thus it makes your life easier.. maybe you should check it out?

I havent used them yet. But i like to try them so i am planning to buy a small set first and then i will consider investing on a bigger set
