I know what you mean! I think its something to do with the wounds they'd create. Surely something nice and hot like an energon sword would create a nice clean cut....give me torn metal and spilt oil every time!
as for the legs....well the front 4 are on his back, splayed open like wings. his rear legs hang down from his thighs, but you can't quite see them from this angle (trust me, they're there.)
