Description Early MiG-21 on display at Nellis AFB as seen in August 2014.

As this is a early model of the "Fishbed", I wonder if this is a former "Red Eagle jet...

You might be surprised just how many articles started out as AFFTC Det 1 flight test projects and then on to Constant Peg. Who do you think trained their pilots & crew chiefs?

I remember seeing quite a few 'articles' in MASDC in the 1980s. We used to have free run of the place but were asked not to photograph the MiG's or the Tagboards.

Sounds like you had a memorable time in the 'war'...

I was lucky enough to be "at the right place at the right time". We all could have done without the several fatal accidents.

Such a big difference between early and later MiG-21.

Yessir!  It was a versatile aircraft.  I have some neat pics of Finnish Mig-21 from a former Colonel in the Finnish AF.

They flew a odd mix of MiG-21 and J35 Draken.

Yes they did. They had an attractive camouflage as well.

Pretty sure this jet was with the 4477th. They flew MIG-21F's that look just like this, and theres an American name under the canopy. I know the MIG-23 at the Threat center was one..

The Fishbed had a lot of versions. Some sleek ones like this are pretty goodlooking

I rather like all variants of the MiG-21. Whenever I see one I am struck by how small they were.

Yes, they were like a ciggarette with wings and canopy. But the -15 n' -17 were even smaller

I think the tiniest fighter I ever saw was the DH 100 Vampire.
