Crews prep F-14A-80-GR, 159442 for the afternoon go.This acft is assigned to VF-301, CVWR-30, based at NAS Miramar and photographed during a TDY to Luke AFB in November 1985.

That was called the "Heater-Ferris" scheme. Β It was only carried by the two west coast reserve fighter units, VF-301 and VF-302. Β I was based on some earlier schemes designed by aviation artist Kieth Ferris to break up the outline of a fighter during ACM. Β There was a fake canopy painted on the bottom of the acft with fake 'helmets' painted in the canopies as well
