Description
Alright, so this is more or less the key thing we're doing at Uni right now. Every Monday we get a list of artists that we have to research, and then do a journal page about. Basically we're supposed to include some info about each artist and then draw one of their artworks, or something in their style or something along those lines, and this is my journal so far. I decided to include everything I got up to this point, the good the bad and the ugly. Some of these I am proud of, some I seriously never want to speak of again, and most are somewhere in between. These journal pages are my acquaintance with traditional media though, so even though right now I got a long way to go, I am confident that, in time, I'll get a better grasp of it.I am far too lazy to list the tools used for each individual image, but my repertoire goes something like this: pencils, colored pencils, pastels, chalk, conte, acrylics, a whole lot of watercolor, and a little guache.
ALSO, since the original size of this image is of somewhat gargantuan proportions, I decided to make the real size download only. Don't want to crash any browsers or nothing. For those of you with slower bandwidth however, I also have this journal update split up into three parts (they're still pretty big though), which you can access

Yeah that last one is Picasso. The original was done in oils I'm pretty sure, but I only had watercolors so I used those, and I still find it quite difficult to blend colors really precisely with those.

I promise you I will make each of these at least five times as big if you can find me a way to stop time, hahaha.
Seriously though, I kinda wish that as well, but that would really be too time consuming, and I wouldn't manage to complete each task in time. I will probably be taking a fine art course next term though, hopefully then I'll get the chance!

these are cool man, the Chuck Close cracks me up. That guy is straaaaaaaange and precise about things. Same goes for Euan Uglow.

Hahaha, I really don't know anything about Close as a person though. The only reason why I had him decapitated was because he got paralyzed by a blood clot at one point in his career. I think he's fucking amazing, personally, his stuff blows me away.
Uglow on the other hand... hahaha...

...creative.
Nice work. An interesting way to use a sketchbook, usually mine consist of commission doodles.

That sounds like a neat assignment. The journal projects in the art department here are always writting and tracing...ew.
I really, really love your piece on Francis Bacon..., it really captures the essence of his works.

Thanks! Francis Bacon was one fucked up fellow though, haha.

'I love that word, gargantuan, never really had the opportunity to use it in a sentence..' haha.
I really love the ones at the top, but they're all really good! my sketchbooks always end up a bit plain. :/

Thanks for the comment! I wouldn't really call this a sketchbook, the pieces are too finished and careful for that, and it'll be like 30% of our mark as well.

oh, sorry, I only called it a sketchbook out of habit. we're supposed to call them journals as well. :] either way, gorgeous work.

Haha, no harm done. I guess at the end of the day the term used really doesn't matter much.
