So yeah, Ria Vol 2 is done. We finished shortly before the end of 2011, and it will make it's French debut at the comic festival of Angouleme, next weekend.
I realize the pages posted in this preview and on the blog are in english, but I'm afraid Ria is still not published in that language. As far as I know, that is still being worked on. So far it's published in France by Editions Paquet, the Netherlands by Silvester Strips and in Germany by Splitter.
In case any of you make it to Angouleme, be sure to drop by the Paquet booth. Sten (creator of the project) will be there, as will I. Although I won't be behind the booth as frequently. Last year we never got around to checking out ANYTHING other than the back of our booth, so I'll be making up for that this time around.

Can it be that the drawing-style kindof reminds me of w.i.t.c.h. ?
It looks a bit similiar..
But love it so far, will surely buy the next book when it's out ^_^

Witch is drawn by Barbucci right? If so, then there's definitely an influence there. Thorsten (who drew Ria) and Barbucci are both from the Disney school of drawing (to an extent), so that makes sense.

jajaa ich hab mich mehr auf mein design studium bzw arbeit als designer konzentriert. Ich hab zwar noch comic sachen gemacht, aber meistens nur kinderkram fΓΌr SkyPirates. Und das ist nicht SO beeindruckend um es mit der Welt zu teilen
Aber deine Farben inspirieren gewaltig und fordern mich geradezu heraus mal wieder was richtiges mit comics zu machen...
Mich wΓΌrde echt interessieren wie die ZahlungsmodalitΓ€ten bei den Franzosen aussehen. Die Seiten sehen so detailliert aus dass ich bei meiner Geschwindigkeit sicherlich keinen guten Schnitt machen wΓΌrde...aber du bist bestimmt schneller als ich in diesem Stil.

I got them in German- it was the only language I could find
I've forgottten most of my deutsch during the last 7 years but I can understand most of what's going on

Usually around 2-3 days. Some pages in the book took longer, others (towards the end of the book, when we just had to get it done in time) less.

Unfortunately, the talks with american publishers that I was aware of all fell through. But we're not neglecting the american market, I'm sure something will develop in the future!

I tried to find volume 1 at the fnac the other day and they didn't have it! WTF!? They don't know what they're missing out on.

Most certainly, I'm a long time admirer of your work. And I'm really only able to say that because you've got real sensitivity when it comes to color that you just don't see too often in a lot of contemporary illustration or just people working with digital media. Are there any painters from art history that you look to for inspiration?

Not in a regular fashion, but yeah I definitely did draw inspiration from certain master painters (and still do, whenever I come in contact with their work).
Caravaggio and Rembrandt would be the first names that pop into my mind in that regard. Those guys had incredible sense for lighting and colors.
