Learning scientific names, plus the fact that most science terms are based in Greek and Latin, so it's helpful when you see a term to say "oh hey I can guess what that means!"

Ah, I see how it could be useful then. My science teachers never really went through that process; they were more like "Here's a new term, learn it by reading the definition" instead of going more into helping us determine what the word might mean if we couldn't remember by definition the way yours did. :C

Yeah I've had a fair few good teachers (odd since my school was dirt poor but a lot of them had been teaching there since my mom was in school), he was always really big into "you can't memorize everything so you need to know how to find information too"

I really wish I could have had teachers like yours. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to remember a lot more of the terms and whatnot if I did.
