Description Avatar for Chronic.

Poof.

The squiggle lines are on purpose to give the holds a bit more life, kind of like in Beavis and Butthead. Also, it looks more gritty (also-also it's more fun to animate since I don't have to be so anal about lines).

I love the lip movement on the smile! Great touch and the "dirty" lines give it awesome character.

xDD LOVE IT! The grin made me laugh. And the Beavis & Butthead style animation works really well with this piece.

Gahh, when i figure out something cool, im so getting one of these XD

So when you color each frame, do you merge the lineart and color layers before doing the animation part?? Or is there some way of grouping the layers of each frame?

Haha sorry, im probably going to be throwing questions at you whenever i see one of these beauties, i've been dying to get the hang of photoshop animation

FablePaint In reply to colonel-strawberry [2010-01-12 17:41:54 +0000 UTC]

I do timeline animation, each frame is a layer and each element is on a layer too. I stack them in folders to keep them organized

It seems so hard to time things out in the timeline, although equally a pain in the frame option.. But i'll have to try the folders thing at least, thanks

I'd say the opposite. You get to see EXACTLY how long everything, every layer, lasts in timeline mode.

Squiggly lines are awesome! Also they make it look like he's wiggling his nose (muzzle? bah, doesn't make half as much sense) like he's about to sneeze when it wrinkles up, eheeh.

... shit 0___0 how did you do the smoke?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FablePaint In reply to RiderB0y [2010-01-12 08:20:27 +0000 UTC]

This is done in Photoshop just so I have the freedom to do anti-aliased effects.

So basically, the same way you animate anyway effect: straight ahead and recall how the thing physically moves. Smoke accelerates out fast, then slows as particles smack against one another, killing its inertia. After that, the particles dissipate out.
The timing isn't perfect on the smoke, ideally everything would be a bit longer, but avatars don't allow for a lot of breathing room since they need to be internet-friendly.
