The moniker is a title imposed on him by his former owner/boss, The Master. He referred to Michael as "The Cat" prior to Michael's becoming sentient (zombies in this world regain their sentience after a period), and continued to refer to him as such. Michael used it to mean something about his attitude and sensabilities, a title of respect and eminence as one of the heralds of The Master as the undead spread their influence throughout the southern US. He continues to use the title.

Have you heard of the EverymanHybrid series? It's pretty good and I'd imagine that you'd like it. It's kinda...confusing sometimes though, but it's worth it because not JUST Slendy appears in the series (another creepypasta character shows up, but I don't say what.

I'm friends with the person who runs a lot of the fanblogs and is close to the creators of Marble Hornets, plus I spent a lot of time browsing shit on Slenderman because the history of the creepypasta fascinates me. So yep.
