What really?! That's strange and interesting. When I think about the word human the first image which appears is also a white men. But I thought, that's because I'm white myself, I didn't know that other races also think about white people if they think about the humanity in general. I think that are deep scars from the Colonial era.
Well you know, in the Second World War everything was important (BEFORE, DURING and AFTER) every little detail changed the world.
I always hate it when people tell the extremely stupid and untrue part of the story:

What people seems to ignore is that if the "Super good democratic Allies" wouldn't had raped the countries who had lost the First World War, well guess what? The Second World War never would have happened.
The war wasn't because the germans were stupid racist, it was because the germans starved to death, because of the infinite debt they need to pay to the winners from the First World War, you know the "Good Ones" (France, Great Britain, USA...) and there was only one who stop that... Adolf Hitler!, so it happened that the germans followed every command from their "Führer" until their deaths.

Hitler couldn't come to power if the german people wasn't so desperate. Because they saw in Hitler a man that could save the country, and he actually did, Germany was a important and economically healthy country just 1 or 2 years before the war.
People seem to ignore the fact that he was a wonderful and very patriotic politician, a much, much better than most corrupt politicians we have today.

Well, there is nothing wrong with it. It is your way of showing respect. It's better that they are not forgotten.
I would not even know what to say or do if ever I get to talk to one. I would have been extremely lucky if that ever happens. I am even amazed by the stories that my grandfather told me before, he saw and experienced war first hand here in the Philippines despite being only a civilian. Metro Manila was basically among the hot zones for urban fighting in the Pacific Theater. My grandfather's old house used to be a safehouse during the American Advance in the Philippines. Wounded or retreating US soldiers would take temporary refuge in the house during the Battle for the liberation of Manila, hence why my grandfather had a huge stockpile of US weapons such as M1 Garands and M1A1 Carbines after the war, which unfortunately, got confiscated by the US military after some time. xD

Yush ^^ There is this one story my grandfather told me, it was very chilling. O__o After the US liberated the Philippines, there was still slight turmoil. My grandfather gathered up with his friends this one time, they were just talking about their experiences and such and about the war when this person whom they have never met before walked up to them and engaged in some conversation with them. And well, soon after, a few other people approached that unknown person and they kinda took him away and out of view from my grandfather and his group. At first, my grandfather and his friends thought nothing of it, then they heard gunshots in the direction where the unknown person was taken off to. As it turned out, that unknown person was one of the collaborators to Japanese during their occupation of the Philippines.
