Yes, I agree. Maybe I should draw him with EDO lines. 
I think the "girly look" is general problem with transforming anime characters in semi-realistic style.

I like monochrome pictures too, they have special type of atmosphere
(To be honest I enjoy drawing hair the most - the rest is boring for me often
