Description
I drew this pic for a contest on the messageboard of [link]We should draw a special scene of one of the novels from "The Animals Of Farthing Wood" by Colin Dann. I don't know the english title of the book; in german it is called "Als die Tiere das Fürchten lernten".
They meet a strange animal species which is some kind of cat but completely unknown. I find it really exciting and funny to draw so I include my personal interpretation of this strange animal in my picture. It wasn't very easy ... I have also taken some tipps by classmates of me (I drew this pic while my school trip to CenterParcs!
Hope you enjoy it! :>

I wonder if they made a movie; I think the creature would have played a bigger role! ...Even more so than Bully!

For anyone wondering about this scene not being on TV, the BBC made a statement in 1994 to answer this very question. They said that, while they wanted to keep the TV series as close to the books as possible, the Siege of White Deer Park was considered "To have a plotline too perilous, dark and violent for mainstream television." On a timeline, I believe this would have fallen into the large time gap between series 2 and 3, not dead centre but leaning slightly towards the third series. I got the heritage edition of the first book for Christmas, and it is interesting to see just how different the books and the TV series really are.

Is this scene after the third season? Because I think I see Plucky in it

It's rather based on the Farthing Woo novels where the animals meet a strange catlike creature. This part has unfortunately never been in the series. It must have been between the happening of the second and the third season.

how was the novel? I've watched the animated series, but always wanted to read the book.

This novel was so interesting to read! It's quite crepy and dark in some parts. The only novel which doesn't have been turned into the animated series.

The animals meet a catlike strange animal and nobody knows what it is. It's a kind of cougar but its real species has never been told. It's very mysterious and dangerous. It kills some of them... D:

Is this a scene from The Siege of White Deer Park? The Beast? I've read the book, but I'm not sure if the cat was a panther, a black cat or the one in your picture.
But the pic is good either way.

It's rather my interpretation of the beast. I think it's never described enough so we can't really imagine how kind of cat it could have been.
Thank you! ^^

Your welcome. All I know is: it wasn't to be messed with. You know, I've always been hoping that if a movie of AOFW was made, this would be one of them, the other being Farthing Wood: The Adventure Begins.
I just found out about the series last year, seen all the episodes, and now there isn't anymore.

Yes, that's so pity. But if the series would be back with further episodes, I'm very sure that all the great quality from then would never be the same in the time now. I think that they would give it a modern style (maybe even cartoony!? *shocked*) and I'm really afraid of this. O.O
But anyway it's very sad that bith stories had never been seen in the series.

Oh, that's awesome! The mystery big cat and everything, how wild!
..you know, that cat was the oddest thing about the series. The fact t had another of its species callign ot it indicates its a native animal.... there's no big cats natve to England!

Ah, The Siege Of White Deer Park. I don't like how they never made it a TV show, and the third series was stuffed up completely!
This is a good picture.

Yes, I'm sure it would be interesting if they had put that part into the series. But some fans mean that this chapter would be too dark for a children's series, but I think, they had found some ways to make it good enough for a such series. So pity! :<
Thanks for the comment and faves!

I've heard that in the book there was a large cat called 'the beast' that terrorized the inhabitants of white deer park, and he left to answer the mating call of a female cat outside the park. So maybe it was the beast what you had read about? I think the beast was one of those big cats that was let free when the dangerous animals act came into force.
