Description "So, Fail4Fun, what's your trick for presenting a cool character without making them look like the villain of the story they're the hero from?"
"Ah well it is rather simple you see. I get a guy sitting in his set of armor, legs crossed, pipe in hand and nonchalant look, and I make smoke billow out of his mouth and snake around a rather ominous shadow with striking purple eyes looming behind him."
"How protagonistic!"

Jesting aside, yanno my buddy ol' pal ? Not only a swell dude with dashing looks, also a talented writer? Knows one hell of a good soup recipe? Yeah well that guy he writes stories, you see. Some funny, most sad. And a good chunk are fanfictions as well. And all are very good!
Now, I'm not sure what the major consensus is about Fancharacters nowadays. I'm gonna take a guess and say a lot of people still read fanfics or look up fanarts for the canon characters and aren't exactly keen on an OC barging in on the main cast and becoming the spotlight. Obviously, there are ample exceptions, but let's brush that off so I can get to the point I wanna make. AmbroseVox takes it one step further : the universes he writes fanfictions about are his canvas and the main casts are his OCs. He wrote a story of moral conflicts with Halo (I'm Alone), he started writing a coming-of-age tale with Skyrim (Following Road & Rivers), and now he writes an epic with Warhammer 40K.
Here's Marsh Silas so far.

I gotta thank Caffinated-Pinecone for the cover and fanarts they provided of some of the key characters. What a treat! I'm not exactly that confident on my ability to stylise this franchise (although Voxbrose gave me plenty references for the designs, thanks to him too!), the artwork for the games are extremely detailed so finding where to cut off isn't as clear for me. Had to stop myself from going overboard with the shading or details (even then, it is a wee bit ludicrous how much the light from the flame does whatever it wants, eh? also yes I am fairly aware fire doesn't just stay lit like that in a smoking pipe). I'm working with an even more restrained pallette than before and I just wanted to make it look sort of alien but not too much... I love unrealistically colorful smoke. Well, this is the tweaked version since the colors I actually used had a slightly different effect to them : For comparison's sake, look' it .

Now, am I gonna explain what that image means and why I chose to represent two of his main characters like this? I think it's fairly self-explanatory both in titles and symbolism so no, I will not. You want answers, you'll do like me and put that Marsh Silas I: An Inquisition folder in your bookmarks and start reading it soon, capice?
