***********************************************

His head ringing with pain, Luther Vandermoor climbs roughly to one knee, taking and leaning upon his sword for support. Blood from his head wounds sticks to his eyelid, and the recent beating given him by the witch's Catshade now permeates his body, joining new injuries like a blanket of needles.

But the most intense pain he feels in his mind. The dreams of his unconscious pull a weighty realization over his thoughts: Valerin, Deirdre, Zirena, and now Elina--one way or another Luther has involved them all in this sinister webwork of deadly evil, and they have all paid for it somehow. In one way or other, he nurtured them, accepted them, trusted them, empowered them, and sent them forth to combat evil or left them alone and vulnerable against it.

And they all had paid some price for it. But what that price was, Luther didn't yet know. He would find out. And if there was any way, he would set things straight. Wiping the blood away from his eyes, he gathered his thoughts about him and prepared to climb to his feet.

***********************************************

Luther Vandermoor's stock model is our own ~Mistersneaky As a collector of swords, he has given me a treasure trove of good Luther references for this sequence and those that follow. If you approve, let him know!

Also, regarding last page's NOTE 2 ("The Chainmail Issue"), I must say that this image contains the best chainmail my method has produced. It may not be good enough for the final production, but it's the effect I was really going for.

Enjoy!

Thank you! All told, the chainmail probably took an hour for this one.

Moody... and impressive as always (but sorry Luther, still rooting for team evil!)

Thank you! And, yeah, Team Evil just suffered a serious setback last chapter, so they could use the rooting...

Kinda makes you wish you'd sent more than one person at a time off on missions, doesn't it, Luther?

The artist/storyteller is already hard-pressed managing so many simultaneous facets of the plot as it is. Several agents at once would be... Of course, more attractive victims to illustrate wouldn't be all bad.

I'll agree that the chamail here is pulling off it's best in three-dimensionality (I think it's the not-quite-even edging I think I see hints of that's helping). The shading on whole is great too.

And incidentally, and weird as it may sound, I'm kind of coveting Luther's boots. If he dies or even gets knocked out again, I'm so taking them.

Luther gets his sense of footwear style from Zirena, who was just disgusted with the Converse High-Top Tennies he was running around in before. "Luther, I'm a Seeress, and I'm telling you Nobody is going to take you seriously wearing shoes like that!" That was the real reason behind the tempestuous near-break-up of 18 months past, though it did result in Luther acquiring these new boots...

I'm glad you like the chainmail, and thanks for the compliment!

Yeah, well, if he fails again, I'm calling dibs on his footwear. I mean really, wandering around the underceller in open-toed sandals may look cute and all, but its *asking* for stubbed toes and other nasty stuff to get stuck so it's digging in between the heel and sole of said shoe...

I recall posing for this very shot! The thought running through my head at the time was "Think one too many whiskey-sours the night before..."

Looks like my sword-collection grew overnight without my knowledge, 'cause I don't recognize this one at all! And they're like my children!

You did a good job with this pose. I had several to choose from, and this one was very flexible and had all the right angles. Plus, as certain female household members pointed out, it really shows off those biceps well...

"All My Children" as a soap opera will forever have an all new meaning to me...

Thanks, Doc. This one shows the reason I keep using that method for chain mail. When I do it right, it looks pretty good, I think.
