A number of people have suggested something like this over the years. Valerin gets thumped by a mob of gremlins but never gets to bring the hurt down on even one of them?! No longer! After succeeding in slipping a noose around Valerin's mace, Gabriel Gremlin hereby receives his comeuppance. It was a noble and worthy sacrifice, and he will be remembered in Gremlin Tribal Lore as "He Who Took One for the Team." Another image is coming that will show the demise of Guy Gremlin on the page after this one--Valerin is trying to teach him how to fly...
This is an expansion page to the general play-by-play of the fight with the gremlins. The model is ~catchan and the photographer is *Viator-Defessus They make this work much more fun!

...Or not. From the expression and body language, itβs clear that anger has taken control. She pays the rope tied around her mace no attention while she kills the nearest gremlin convenient while getting a few more licks in. Thatβs about all she manages to do before the little pests have the last laugh. As things are, all sheβs done is stay put on her rump while killing a couple of their number and anger the rest, ensuring that things are about to go from bad to progressively worse for her.
Now look around at Pages 08first, 08, 08.5ish, 09, and 10. There are some decisive blows that could have been taken here. The proper response to this would have been to make some decisive blows to make them back up so she could take care of the ropes around her mace and legs and then get back up as quickly as possible. This would have prevented them from swarming her too badly and she could have gotten away.
But given her hasty reaction, let us sit back and see how she fares doing things her way, shall we?

I suppose the gremlins had fun punishing Valerin for Gabriel Gremlin's untimely end during her long captivity in the cellar.
Maybe he didn't die, maybe he was left crippled and Valerin had to serve as his "steed" (see Fair Harvest page 26)

Doctor Maura Isles: "Massive blunt-force trauma to the posterior cranium."
Jane: "And the weapon?"
Maura: "You're asking me to speculate. You know I don't speculate."
Jane (rolling eyes): "Mau-raaa!"
Maura: "We have to let the evidence speak for itself. After I finish the autopsy I'll... What's that noise?"
Jane: "I hear it too. It sounds like the pitter-patter of tiny feet."
Maura: "Many, many tiny feet. Oh my!"
