Po looks ready to take on anything with that whole 'Happy-go- lucky, Hit me with with your best shoet attitude.' I like this one. awsome job and kuddos on the kanji too.

The kanji are premade brushes from , but thanks! It's supposed to look like Po made it to the scrolls of legend.

Very nice! This piece seems quite different to your usual works, but still brilliant none the less.
You have done a fantastic job with the pose and the proportions, I must say. And the smiling determination edged across his face makes it all the more better. That really is just like Po.
Also, I love how you have placed the kanji in the background. What does it say?

Thanks! It's referenced by the movie handbook that DK did (I forget the actual name, though...
) I probably should've put him in his new clothes, though.
Oh, well.
And I'm not sure what all the little kanji mean on the right, but the three larger ones on the left are "courage", "benevolence", and "strength".

Beautiful, Moana! What does the Chinese kanji say?

I'm not very sure what all the little ones on the right are (I recognize only a couple of them), but the three bigger ones on the left are "courage", "benevolence", and "strength". It's supposed to be like Po is finally in a scroll.

The color of the backround looks EXACTLY like a scroll! ^^

Cool, this one looks like it's more of a scripture kind of drawing, like it was done in old-kind ink.
But for the title, did you mean "young Po"? Or is "yong" a Chinese word for something?

FaithFirefly In reply to A113Panda [2009-02-09 20:17:42 +0000 UTC]
!! That's what I was hoping to acheive.
Po finally made his way to the scrolls of legends!
No, I meant "yong". I was afraid it might be considered a typo.... "Yong" means "brave/courageous/valiant/heroic" according to the Chinese symbol site I use.
It's supposed to be a depiction of Po at the beginning of my KFP sequel, hence the wristbands.

Oooh, okay. Well, you can't blame me for thinking that I don't know much about Chinese words or characters.

I also figured out the "Po" means 'monkey' in Chinese too ^^, I forget which dialect though, Cantonese or Mandrin?

Say what?
*looks it up*
Hmmm, the site I have says it's "hou" which - when spoken - sounds a lot like "Po". Chinese words have a lot of different meanings to each word...I think it just depends on how the word is said.

alvin938 In reply to FaithFirefly [2009-02-10 01:55:28 +0000 UTC]
You're right, my mistake "猴子"
Hou Zi.
Is the 'Zi' part an honorific I wonder? Yes, but I can see where the "hou" sound would come from "Po" now ^^

FaithFirefly In reply to alvin938 [2009-02-19 17:40:31 +0000 UTC]
Not sure. The website I was at just said it "Hou". I'll have to see what "Zi" means though (it probably has four definitions...
)

I know that four definitions can be annoying, same thing pops up in Japanese -__-

I'm curious to know what "Po" really means - at least when they named him.

Po I believe means, "pao", dumplings!

According to The Art of Kung Fu Panda, it means "precious"!
