Description
…you make my heart sing.Comments Appreciated!
African Wild Dog, Painted Hunting Dog, Painted Dog or scientifically C. Lycaon pictus. Something about these pooches really does make my heart sing! Whenever I watch them move my soul gets excited and I hope that’s evident of the implied movement of this one here with its fluid trot. These are some of the most beautiful, gorgeous animals in Africa and I can proudly say that I am a really big fan. These things from the way they run (they are some of the world’s best endurance runners) to the way they strategize their amazing hunts are simply poetry in motion. They’re also one of the most peaceful and cooperative canine species in the world, eating in silence at their kills without the infighting seen amongst most canid species at the kill side.
Wickedly beautiful, wickedly intelligent - the African Wild Dog, one of the most magnificent predators that this world has!
You can learn more about the threats facing them (like most African predator species they are an endangered one) and how to help conserve them here-> [link] . Please help if you can!
ARTISTIC NOTES:
- I spent a lot of time looking at photographs and footage of African Wild Dogs before and while I did this, compiling a library.
- I experimented with a new, more detailed take on cell shading on this one - look closely and you will see it!
- Overall, I'm quite pleased with this. While I am not overly happy with the background, the focus is the dog and I hope the look of the picture (emulating a wild life documentary where a female dog trots along a dirt road in an African National Park) is evident. It feels like a happy picture.
- I am pleased with my dog's trot, which feels to me weighty and powerful, the ground eating trot of a true predator. There ARE volume inconsistencies which I did my best to prevent in the drawing stage, which I only notice now, but que sera! (As with everything, I will do better next time and I am completely content with that. I call this drawing DONE!)

Excuse me, but I couldn't help notice your wonderful art and was very much wondering if you would like to join a new Group I have started. It is called The-Stray-House, a roleplaying group sully for stray dogs of any kind to join. I have but onto two members besides myself at this time, and would very much love to have you join our ranks. If you are interested in joining, please look into this link. The home page has the rules linked, and how you can join. Granted this group is very new, so the rules and how to join will have things added onto slowly as we build up the ranks and grow in numbers. Thank you for reading if you have. the-stray-house.deviantart.com…

I already spazzed about this during our chat when you were working on it, but I'm still in love with this! The texture of the fur is gorgeous, it looks so silky and straight, and the lanky anatomy is superrrrrr~ Fantastic work again Rosy!

This is so gorgeous! I was hoping you'd submit it on here so I could give a better comment than what Tumblr allows
Lovelove how this fur shading technique came out <3 It definitely looks like it was a bit of a pain, but it turned out fabulous! The prancing pose and anatomy came out fantastic too. You got the slender look of the species down well. Also those spots look fabulous!
