He wanted to shout out to the night, he wanted Ginny to know that he was there, he wanted her to know where he was going. He wanted to be stopped, to be dragged back, to be sent back home ...
But he was home. Hogwarts was the first and best home he had known.
He and Voldemort and Snape, the abandoned boys, had all found home here.

The above passage is one of my absolute favourite quotes from the entire Harry Potter series, and I have long wanted to try to illustrate it. I originally wanted to include young Snape and Voldemort in the picture, and had in mind "heads floating over a picture of Hogwarts" or some such, but in the end, since concrete scenes are more my forte, I settled on trying to draw the moment of Harry walking into the forest at the end of Deathly Hallows. Btw, this is not supposed to be the exact moment quoted above~ It's from just a bit later, but the same feelings are still permeating Harry at this moment, I believe.

I very much like how the background looks, while Harry himself only looks so-so. It had to be darkened digitally, though. Watercolours really aren't very well suited for overly dark paintings. In the original, you can hardly see the light of the wand at all, but in my edited version, I think it looks good~ I used bottled ink rather than paint for the trees and the castle, and I'm quite satisfied with how it behaved. I originally bought the ink for the purpose of doing lineart with it, but to my disappointment I found that the lines didn't turn out nearly thin enough, and I had to give that up. So it was really nice to find another purpose for the ink. It has a very vibrant colour (almost too much so) and it diluted well too~

There are some points of artistic licence that I would like to point out myself:
1) The trees are empty of leaves even though it's summer. This is because the branches looks creepier like that (not at all because I was too lazy to draw them, oh no).
2) The position of Hogwarts is a little too elevated, at least according to my own mental picture of the school grounds. This is for dramatic effect.
3) Harry is completely visible, because really, it wouldn't be much of a picture if he wasn't in it, now would it? Then again, it would have been simpler for me. I could say: "oh, he is there, only he's wearing his cloak, obviously." And kept only the BG, which is my favourite part of the drawing anyway :3

If you spot any other mistakes in addition to the ones that I have now disclaimed, please tell me, so that I may disown them as well --- no I mean, so that I might learn not to do them in the future, of course!
