I always knew I’d have to be… diplomatic, I guess I should say, when I set my sights on becoming one and traveling overseas in service of my people, though I don’t think I imagined it as ambassadorial as it’s become. You have to watch what you say, be careful what you do, and make sure not to step on any hooves.

“I suppose I’ve done alright - no trouble to come by us yet, though I do worry for those pirates that threaten our cargo every time we voyage out. Still, I can’t let a bunch of scallywags get in the way of my adventure.

“I love to explore and see the world, discover new places. I wish I could see more of it, actually, but for now I have a duty to my herd and lists to check off. Taye loves to joke about how “naively enthusiastic” I can be even if I’m the older one of the two of us, yet I just can’t help it. I don’t know where it will take me or what I’ll do in the future, however I do know that for now this is my path alongside my best friend and those we work with.

“Born close to the sea, the water has almost been all I’ve ever known. Far from the ridges of sand, the heat of the desert, my family and I lived within one of Sedo’s ports. My father was a warrior who kept the peace and watched for trouble on the water, meanwhile my mother was a talented woman who kept records of what came into the land and out of it. At the time of my birth, my older siblings had been too young to do much other than watch me alongside other caretakers when our parents were away for the day.

“Living so close to the water, now, gave me plenty of opportunities to meet new individuals as I grew. From our home I’d wander, running through the shallows at the heels of my siblings before we’d bump into someone unfortunate enough to meet us. We were always bouncing around asking for stories from the guests, questions falling from our mouths of their adventures. Perhaps I was the most interested as we aged since, as my siblings followed different paths, I remained the same.

“I wasn’t completely alone, at least. I never really was. Where my siblings joined my parents in work, there had been another filly at the port whose family had business there. Taye, quick to become my best friend, was my partner in crime. There was nowhere where one wouldn’t go that the other didn’t follow, thick as thieves - or whatever the phrase is older adults like to use. Anyways, practically my sister, our family only continued to grow.

“Besides Rafail and Nomoki, my family was blessed with another member. A little girl named Avra, it became Taye and my own duty to watch over her while the adults were off. I think we did a pretty good job. She’s not too corrupted - probably. We did happen to drag her into a lot of trouble the older we all got, but it had always been in good fun.

“Childhood came and went, being a teenager with its own hardships as Taye and I attempted to figure out where in the world we belonged. Staying in the port made us restless, though we weren’t allowed on the ships that traveled far beyond the horizon at that time. Too young to go, too old to wasting away, we began to shadow adults and learn their trades. We kept our hooves busy and our minds off the great open sea, but somehow we always found our way back to it. One day we would leave the lands of Sedo to travel the world, we boasted. Two kids with big dreams, eventually things became a reality when we declared what in life we wanted to do.

“I could say that finally getting onto a ship, having a proper job as well as being able to sail, was everything we’d hoped for, however in the beginning it hadn’t been. We’d had to learn our sea legs, prone to sickness the first few weeks while on board. In the beginning, it was messy besides that. We had to carefully create ourselves into established suppliers and buyers both, mindful of what we said to others we traded with and our own expenses. We weren’t made of shards nor could we blow them all, so we had to become proper adults of our herd in order to help it prosper.

“Coming home for the first time after the months away was a breath of fresh air, though I craved more. I cleaned up my mistakes and learned from them, ready to leap back into the world when the boats were set to take me.”
