Little more than a child, Zaina is a creative individual with a lively personality. She’s vibrant, often confident, and she loves to show off whether it is her ribbons she holds dear to her heart or her dancing skills she had trained for years to perfect in her mind’s eye. This is not to say, however, that she rubs it into the face of others. Zaina has a warm heart, her family one that taught her to give to those less fortunate and to treat everyone regardless of their rank in society with as much kindness as they gave to her. Of course, they say, that with hearts on their shoulders that some can be a little emotional. Silver spoons, plush pillows, and servile slaves to tend to her every need, Zaina had been born into the life of wealthy commoners. As a child among the Aberforth family, a prestigious family within Valore, she had little to yearn for that wasn’t given to her. She had family, books, dance lessons. She had schooling and siblings to play with as well as cousins they frequently visited to spend family afternoons out in the garden. Zaina was the perfect example of a privileged child, though despite her habit of throwing herself out into the spotlight there was also a more humble side of herself that her parents instilled into her. Her mother, Sarina, had not always been so lucky.

From a young age, the girl volunteered with her parents to help the less fortunate. They’d gone to the temples and had prayed to the lord Ignacio, then assisting others or merely praying for their well being. While not the most religious of families, the Aberforths did believe that faith and having something to believe in lifted spirits. One day, all would be well. It was a common saying in the house when the children would stumble and fall, scraping knees or dropping dishes. It would be alright, everything would, even if not that day.

It was that kind of hope that guided Zaina to choosing such a commoner’s profession rather than pursuing her father’s business of slave trading or her mother’s in baking. She wanted to bring light to other lives, to give them a spark with which to live for. Her dancing lessons became her life, her ribbons imitating that of the fire or electricity (depending on what day she decided to wear blue) she hoped to one day be able to manipulate should Ignacio ever bless her. It was her passion, her very own gift to be a talented dancer through numerous lessons and after many years. Dancing was also her anchor in life.

When the Crucible crumbled to the ground with the Vindicators attacking, when Aodh had brought fire to Breim by accident and were cast from their tunnels and caves, when rough seas brought pirates, Zaina danced. She danced to make herself feel better, to forget what was happening in the world while she twirled and performed for those that gathered to watch her. She wanted to give them a break from life too, to distract them from their own lives and to give them something to cheer for despite when she stumbled or tripped after long days out under Ignacio’s sun.

When she got home, her legs sometimes shaking, she would settle down beside her siblings and the family’s prized pitfighter to tell them of her day. She would tell them other stories too, reading from books and helping the younger ones to learn. She tried to teach Chevy to write, and reassured him when he could not. He was a pitfighter and bodyguard, she knew, but the family tried to give him everything he could want in life as they did their servile slaves. They brought him treats, gave him soft cushions to rest his weary head. They offered him the pool, the gardens to wander on their estate. When he was not training or otherwise fighting, he could accompany any of the children outside so long as he remained close to their sides.

The world was turning into a dangerous place, though with her family, Chevy, and her dancing, Zaina tried to remain as upbeat as ever that some day or another everything would be okay.
