Burn Remedy

Katara yelled out in pain.
Fire was not her strong point and she hated it. None the less, she still had to cook with it. Since Katara trusted Zuko more, she would sometimes have him help her with dinner. However, that was mostly Aang’s job, when he could get time away from training.
The only person around ran to her side.
“Zuko, I’m fine I just,” she let out a small groan. Katara had been too careless with adding herbs and couldn’t evade the large flame that had burst.
Zuko took her hands carefully, looking at the damage.
“I think I can help.”
Katara gave him a weird look as he led her to a small patch of grass. He began collecting odds and ends, laying them next to Katara. Soon he had what he needed and started to create a paste.
“What are you doing?”
Zuko smiled. “My mom taught me how to make a kind of remedy to ease burns quickly.”
Zuko lifted her hand and softly put a dab of the remedy on her fingers. “Being a firebender, it came in handy.”
Zuko slowly rubbed it along her finger and palm. It gave her chills. The cure was cool and felt calming on her hands. Zuko added a bit more along her wrist.
“I wish this had worked, when I got my,” he hesitated and touched his left eye softly. His eyes began to look beyond reality. Katara held onto his hand.
“I’m sorry Zuko.”
His eyes snapped back and looked at Katara. He could see her concern. Looking down at their hands Zuko shook his head.
“No, it’s ok. That was a long time ago.”
Katara felt the need to comfort him. She wanted so much to. Looking at his face Katara’s eyes followed the burn marks around his smooth skin. She hesitated.
“You know, I’ve never actually felt your scar before.” Zuko looked up. “Does it still hurt?”
Zuko shook his head as Katara slowly moved her hand from his to his face. Softly she touched below his eye and found her way around it. His eye lid closed and Katara ran her finger where his eyebrow would have been and around to his ear.
With out noticing, she had moved closer. Tucking a bit of hair behind his ear, Katara laid her hand on his cheek. Moments passed before she quickly moved away and coughed lightly. Zuko followed suit.
Katara stood up awkwardly. “Uhm…” A small smile came to her lips.
“Thanks Zuko.”
She walked back to her cooking. Zuko watched her leave and soon got up too, smiling to himself.
