Ahhhh... what I've been working on for a month or more. This is the reason why I haven't been uploading anything of value lately. It took me way to long to make this. I still don't think it's up to par.
Things wrong with it:
1-Text is way too small. Sorry. I'm working on a actual typed font version, before I send it off to the Tokyopop contest.
2-It gets very Locke-esque toward the end.
3-Contrast changes on every page.
4-Proportions and sketching style change on every page. I'm not very good at proportions yet ;_;
5-The pages probably don't match up correctly, if printed in manga format (because of the double pages)
6-It's only in black and white - I will upload the colored pictures later. There's about 4 of them.
7-One of the frames is something I drew like a year ago.
8-A lot of the pages are just full-page pin-ups. I consider that a cop-out, because this is supposed to be a comic, not an illustrated novel (but it *will* be an illustrated novel eventually)
9-Lack of speech bubbles may make it hard to follow who is talking and when. I tried to make it obvious. Hopefully, IF you can read the text, you'll be able to understand what's going on.
The zipfile contains all 22 pages, and the cover. It's about 3mb. If you download it, please take the time to comment on it or give me feedback... I spent countless, countless hours on this and I consider it my magnum opus.. of the moment.

If you try to rip any of the images or characters, I will hunt you down relentlessly ^_^ Not that they're very original to begin with... but humor me a little.

Yay!! i finelly get to see it ::downloads, and reads:: *.* o0o0o0o0o0o Matt i really love it so far. i always feel like a dork cause i never have much to say as far as comments go, but i dont like your proportions are off all that much at all. I mean, heh makes it original. Its really great to see how your two charries act. Their personality, and to see their background. I was able to follow the text alright ^-^ but then again, i read alot of manga so i know the tricks of the order.
Personality, i think it looks great. You can tell how much work you put into it. Some people get sloppy, and bored when they do a manga, about halfway through, but each picture looks great. You really did a miraculous job!!
And yes, cant wait till you get the next issue done =d

O my goodness That was excellent! I think this deserves all the good credit it can get. And with all the things you see wrong with it,I certainly didn't. Text was easy to read... And I thought that it was fairly simple to understand. No need for those speech bubbles.... I think that will mess up the overall look. But anyways,this is excellent. Good luck on your next,and I'll be looking forward to it.

"cliche and predictable"
"short and not that rich"
The first, I can understand - the story is really unoriginal in the beginning. Blah blah blah fallen angels, everyone has one, they're a dime a dozen. However, this comic contains about 2.5% of the story I already have written, and it *does* get a bit more interesting and original.
But very short and not that rich? The guidelines for the contest require that the comic is 15-25 pages, and this is 22. Maybe I could've fit more story into those pages if I would've made all the pin-ups into single frames, but another guideline was that it had to be a complete story arc. And what happened after this comic (story-wise) just wouldn't fit into the comic without going over that amount of pages. My point is that this comic isn't really a complete segment. It's short because it has to be.
I'm assuming that "not rich" fits into the same category as "cliche and predictable," so there's no sense in me whining about that part anymore

Amazing! Actually, I love the font. I love the feeling that comes with the repetition... very beautiful. Please, continue! I actully like it very much in black and white, and for colors, definitely do your usual style or dry, washed-out colors - like a watercolor, like a painting. Anyway, you're quite talented. I think the proportions fit very well, as does the sketchy style. Pin-ups isn't just a cop-out - please, don't ever believe that. For me, it makes it more emotional, told in vignettes instead of having every move illustrated. Very good.

for starters, in my opinion the story is very short and not that rich
BUT. every scene is amazingly well done, drawings are fantastic, text is well placed - actually i think that text bubbles would ruin it... im looking very much forward to seeing the colored versions.
ive never really enjoyed manga, but this is stunning...

You did a very good job with this and those torn text boxes look very nice, they really go with 'sketchy' feel you were creating. I early await the colored version. My only suggestion is to put them into one file using adobe acrobat or something similar so itβs easier to read, not that its overly difficult but it would seem more like a book that way in my opinion. Keep up the good work

I've fallen in love... very well made. each frame is a work of art. you didnt skip out on anything... this is a definate fave

Fallout...this is the most AMAZING comic I have read to date...not only have you made it beautiful and emotionally terrible at the same time, you have made the lead character blind....if I didn't have enough respect for you before, I certainly do now.

this is really cool the only thing that was hard was the speech as u said befor but i really like it. Good work can't wait to see more. maybee you should do what fred did with megatokyo and make it an online comic and maybee you will get a book deal. just a thought

Very nice page layout and pencil work. The story line seems interesting, if slow to pick up (though I'm sure it will, this only being the first issue and all).

I considered doing the boxes in Photoshop, it would've been easier, but I decided to stay true to the mood of the comic, and draw them all by hand. It's supposed to look sketchy and messy, and it took too much effort. Gah.
