Description This is for the ChocolateBeauties contest. It focused on black cheerleaders.

I tried to show the various shades and features of dark-skinned ladies in these girls. There's such a variety - just like in fair-skinned ladies! This was seriously a blast to draw/paint!

I chose this pose because it emphasized a) the sheer muscle and strength needed by cheerleaders to gracefully execute a feat like this and b) the teamwork needed in order to constantly be working together as one unit. Imagine flying up in the air counting on only your teammates to save you -- need some serious unity and trust there. I was going to make a picture with only one athlete, but I wanted to convey how essential the GROUP is in cheerleading. It's a team sport, just like almost every other one.

I also wanted to prove a point that cheerleading is actually quite difficult and you need to train, again, like any other sport. You can't pull a feat like this with just average strength.

Done in watercolor (trying to get better at it...urg!)

This is lovely, Falyn! I love their different skin tones especially--as a dark skinned person, I can tell you that there's a huge shade spectrum within families alone, and that's something most art and the media fail to portray. Great job! Love the pose and what they represent as well.

.A. Danke! I was kinda stressin' 'bout the skin shades. I wish I could have gone even darker on the bottom middle girl, but the watercolor wouldn't :c

Concur! Your style! And I really like how you showed the differences between girls, they're not all cookie cutter, you did a good job portraying differences in face! THAT HAIR. Curly hair is always a blast to draw it, looks lovely!
