The Creature you see before you is the product of about three years of my life. I started it my junior year in high school and finished it my second year in college! It was sparked by a dream I had of this strange creature...After designing all the pieces, I carved them out of styrofoam. Then I covered them with paper clay (used to be paper puddy), painted them with acrylics (in designs inspired by Alebrijes -- look it up if you want to see awesomeness), and assembled them with beads and wire and springs. The joints were so loose I had to make it into a marionette. From head to tail's tip, it's about a yard long and from the top of the head to the tips of its feet, it's about 20 inches. The eyes are glass.
This is the longest project I've ever worked on!

Holy cow, amazing. I always thought a flat face on an animal might look messy, but yours is colorful and beautiful with its intricate shape and patterns. It's thin enough that I wonder if I might be able to make something similar with chenille stems, though I don't have markers or paint to capture all those patterns.
