So, I see people redesigning characters from mlp and giving them headcanons and stuff, yeah? Well, a lot of them I don't like.
Why you ask? Mostly because they seem to completely overhaul the design, to the point that it might as well be its own character instead of a redesign of an already existing character.
Well, I figured I'd try my hand at it, so this is the result, and I'm pretty happy with how they all came out.

Notes:
-I like when mlp characters are given real-world horse markings, so I gave most of them markings. I also feel like it helps them stand out, instead of almost appearing like recolours of the same character over and over again.
-I added some of my 'race-design' preferences to them as well. Such as unicorns having the signature lion-like tail/cloven hooves. Or giving pegasi small clumps of feathers on their rumps. [They're actually supposed to have tail feathers, but I was high when drawing this and forgot to add them in, lol.]
-My style of drawing ponies tends to also add two extra features: Defined hooves with colours that reflect the pony's eyes, and inner ears that take one colour from the pony's mane/tail.

Okay, so here they are separately:

Applejack-
I gave her markings inspired by the tobiano markings on real horses, using her original freckle colour as the colour for said markings. I decided that I didn't really like the red on the hair-ties, so I changed it to the green that seems more common on her pallete now, and used the red for her hat instead, so the eye is more drawn to her face. I also added a blaze.

Pinkie pie-
I gave her splash markings and a marking on her face that encompasses half of it, because white markings that go over a horses eye irl often turn that eye blue. I gave her heterochromia because of that [and also because I though it was weird how Lauren didn't use the yellow on her cutiemark anywhere else on her design.] Her hooves alternate between blue and yellow, so the blue and yellow colours stay balanced.

Rainbow dash-
Gave her darker socks, and bird-like streak markings on her sides [and on her back too, but you can't see that.] I had to redraw the wings too, because the anatomy was bothering me haha. I gave her coloured outer feathers, with the rainbow colours across her feathers. I also made her body a bit darker, mostly so the rainbows actually stand out a bit more.

Fluttershy-
Probably the least changed. I gave her piebald markings on her back legs, but her front legs stayed normal, with another blaze that turned the hair on the front of her mane and her whole tail get lighter. [I didn't do that with AJ's tail because I just like how it looks without the colour change.]

Rarity-
Rarity is no doubt the most changed. I changed her hair colours to that of Nightmare rarity from the comics [I haven't read the comics very much, I've only read a few, but Nightmare rarity has a sweet design.] So, she also has sparkles in her hair, which is mostly just for aesthetic. I gave her grullo marking down her spine [she also has the signature stripes on her shoulders, but that's being obscured by the hair.] I gave her a star forehead marking, and while making it, realized it touched the horn, so I went all the way with that. I gave her legs a gradient of the grullo colour, and I made her eyes the same as nightmare rarity.
...Basically I was tripping over myself for nightmare rarity when I designed this version.

Twilight-
I see people putting a yellow streak in twi's hair whenever they redesign her, I assume its because of her 'rainbow power' form, but I liked how it looked so I added it in as well. Redrew the wings again. I also incorporated her mane colours in her feathers, and gave the bluer ones on her inner wing a yellow gradient. [I like to think it's symbolic of Celestia and Luna always being with her.] I also gave her a sort of...blanket-esq marking on her back, which if I ever do more of these, will definitely show up on her brother's design as well.
