Description
Inspired and Created for Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter Chronicles series . You CANNOT edit these or redistribute these in any fashion without expressed permission of Val Freire + Cassie Clare . However permission as it stands is;- You can share them or host them on your website ONLY if you credit/link to their original source.
- You can add them to your own original art (but not for profit).

I am a big fan of the series, and love the runes you have designed, and was wondering if you would mind answering a curiosity i had. Do the runes you created stem from any current symbols or are they entirely original? did you pull from inspiration? i find it all very fascinating and would love it if you wouldn't mind helping me out with this!

First off, these are amazing. You rock.
Second - I have a question. I'm in the planning stages for a TMI/TID tattoo: I want to get Tessa's quote, "One must always be careful of books and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us." I'm an avid reader, I love to write, I'm currently studying for my Bachelor's degree in English lit -- words mean a lot to me. BUT, I want to pair a rune with the quote for the tattoo, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one would be the best fit for the quote. I know there's not necessarily one that would be a perfect fit, but what would you do? Any input would be greatly appreciated... I'm too indecisive to make a decision without any outside opinion!

3rd. I'm trying to decipher exactly your request; you asking for me to recommend what's nearest to it or you asking me to make a new thing-- which is fine, but a wholly different conversation.
If it were me (and I'm not saying this to plug myself, I'm saying this as a former-tattoist and an avid tattoo enthusiast), I'd commission to have the thing made up, specific to your needs. It's your body (holy vessel, a temple, etc.) if you're committed enough to do it, you should also be committed enough to do it right.
It would greatly ease the anxiety of your indecisiveness if you've worked to make the perfect thing.
ALSO, with the new book coming out, you might want to just wait til;l it comes out and see if it has something more specific to your needs. If not, than I wholeheartedly recommend pursuing the other option.

You make a very good point. I guess my only issue with creating something entirely new (or asking you/someone else to) is that I want something that ties directly to the books -something that is mentioned that Shadowhunters would use. (I feel silly talking about fictional things like this. I'm comforted by the fact that I know I'm not the only crazy fangirl. Ha.)
That being said, I probably should wait for the new book. Patience has never really been my thing.
I was thinking about possibly using the 'speak in tongues' rune (for obvious reasons), or even the healing/painless rune for a deeper "words can change us, but it doesn't have to hurt" meaning. Silly?

Technically these are OFFICIALLY unofficial, [link] since they're neither included in the books and unlikely to be included in the film/future books. It was just a thing I drew up from conversations between Cassie and my s'Elf. In fact, quite a lot of the first sheet of glyphs were not official, they grew from conversations with friends. Casie included them as an after effect. The entire second sheet came from fan-suggestions, so...
[Side Note 1: Ha-Hah!, There is a "Patience" Rune, dunno if it'll be included in the book or not. I imagine the book will happily surprise the all-of-us.]
Your specific request would translate into something like "Words. change/us | doesn't (negation) need/hurt" cuz runes are a bit transliterate, so there wouldn't be words like can or but or to. There just wouldn't be a need. Or even words like him, her, us or them. It'd be more like 'person-hood'.
This is NOT silly at all, especially for someone who loves words. I mean REALLY loves words, cuz it's shit like this that means everything!
[Side Note 2: A sentence written out in glyphs would read neither right to left, or left to right, but rather a straight line up-to-down. Just mentioning this for tattoo related thoughts.]

Just in general. You know I was once at this signing, right? and there were these two girls cos-playing as Izzy & Alec, and they were piecing together their costumes in the seats. Hair, garments, and they were drawing rune on one another. I asked if I could take their picture and they were nice enough. I told them how super impressed I was they could remember them from memory since I still had to refer to notes, to draw them up. They said "YEAH!" like of course, TMI fans know how to do this from memory... I just remembered how confused and exited they were when I was called up onstage to help draw out some runes for a few other fans.
IT just impresses the fuck out of me when fans even try, I mean, I made them but I would still rather cut out a stencil than attempt to draw them out long-hand... not to mention the awesome hair-job you've got going on there
