however pegasi are depicted as being athletic and stronger then most ponies argo the wonderbolts.

Mmm... I wouldn't say that exactly. The Wonderbolts are depicted more as a team of speedsters that are light and fit. Earth ponies, however, are depicted as being the stronger ones (think about the time Applejack stopped a moving train), much like Cole is often depicted as being the strongest member of the team. Cole shows many more qualities of an Earth Pony than a Pegasus.

mmmm idk, ive always seen the pegasi as the strongest group with unicorns as the weakest. the biggest ponies on the show besides celestia have been pegasi stallions (the guards and rainbow dash's bullies)
