Description Overview
In general, the Light type is a well-rounded, generalist type with no glaring weaknesses stats-wise. Most Light-type moves are status moves, with effects including healing allies or themselves, preventing opponents from attacking, or reflecting effects back at the opponent. Combat-wise, Light types can be adapted to both defensive and offensive styles of gameplay, and their relatively balanced stats can be used to cover the disadvantages that other types may have.

Defense
The Light type plays competently as a defensive player, but is not entirely infallible in this respect. In particular, elemental effectiveness can be a double-edged sword at times. The relationships between Light and other types are interesting, in that Light and Dark are super-effective against each other, the only types with this relationship. Light is also weak to the common Grass and Ground types, the latter of which is a particularly powerful offensive type. Light is, however, resistant to six types and immune to one more. Resistances include the common Water, Flying, and Fighting types, the first two of which have many representatives and the latter often used offensively. However, the Light type makes up for this in that it has a diverse movepool, with numerous status moves, and many Light-types have strong defensive stats to counteract their elemental weaknesses. The Light-type can work well with most other types, but is most suitable for pairing with a type that is specialized in either attack (e.g. Ice or Fighting) or defense (e.g. Rock or Steel), either to back up the usually weak defensive stats of the former or to enhance the already strong defenses of the latter.
The Light type is also notable for its wide variety of recovery moves, which can restore health or prevent enemy attacks from reaching it. Many moves of this sort can be beneficial to the user itself, allowing the Light type to hold its own in single battles. However, Light-type status moves are most effective in team battles, because many of them are used primarily to help allies instead of the user itself. This means the Light type shines, quite literally, as a support type, possibly even more so than on its own.

Offense
Offensively, the Light type is a mixed bag. Its Attack is somewhat mediocre, making physical moves challenging, but its Special Attack is more useful. It is the only type capable of affecting both Dark and Ghost type Pokemon, eliminating their previous lack of weaknesses. The use of attacks that reflect moves back at the opponent, along with increased priority, makes Light-types a challenging type to overcome. Many offense-oriented Light-types are also known for their speed, allowing them to strike more quickly than other types of Pokemon. Direct offense falls flat, however, in terms of elemental effectiveness; although the Light type is super-effective against four types, six others resist it, including the common Grass and Fire types. It is helpful, therefore, to pair the Light type with another offensive type, such as Fighting, to cover this critical weakness.
With the introduction of the Light type, a new Status condition is also added: Blindness. A Pokemon that is blinded will be affected for an indeterminate number of moves; Light-types cannot be blinded, but all others will be blinded until the effect wears off or if it is hit by a Dark-type move. Under this effect, the damage of Special attacks is reduced by 50%, and there is a 50% chance that an attack used by the affected Pokemon will miss.

Contest Properties
When used in Contests, Light-type moves typically become Beauty moves, while some may be Cool moves.

Uploaded to scraps because it's intended to be a reference, not a work of its own.
Since I'm returning to fakemon yet again, and since I have movepools with my Battlemon, I've decided to make a guide to the new type that I've introduced, including moves and elemental effectiveness. Now I'll admit, ~Fakemon-fan 's Light-type guide [link] was an EXTREMELY helpful reference when making this. I'm fully aware that a lot of the moves on the spreadsheet were actually swiped from that guide, but I'm also aware that it in turn had cannibalized them from existing Pokemon moves. However, I wanted to make this type description distinct from the other one, so I included a few more existing attacks and, more importantly, added some of my own fanmade moves as well which are exclusive to my fakemon regions. After adding a lot of physical and special moves to compensate for the lack, I noticed that instead of making the Light type a pure defensive/support player like the reference did, it was easier to make it a balanced type, because light can be used for attacking (lasers) as well as defending (barriers). Light is also fast, hence the addition of Quick Attack and ExtremeSpeed. To keep Light from being overpowered I decided on making Light a Jack-Of-All-Stats, with average speed, defense, attack, and health; this way it can be applied to other more specialized types without too many complications.
For elemental effectiveness, I used the properties of light to help me out here. Light and Dark make good polar opposites, so they work against each other. Light weakens Psychic and Bug because they don't like bright lights. Ghost because of the holy theme. Ground, Rock, and Steel resist Light because Light cannot penetrate them; Grass both resists and weakens Light because it absorbs it; Fire and Electric resist because they create light. Light in turn resists Water, Ice, and Flying because it can pass through all of them, and Fighting, Bug, and Psychic for the sake of self-defense. It's also unaffected by Ghost because, again, holiness.
Whew, that was fun. From now on, if you want to know what the Light-type attacks in my movepool are, see this spreadsheet for details.

What are the four types that are weak to light? And Grass should actually be immune to light type attacks.

Dark, Psychic, Bug, and Ghost.

Also, I've heard somewhere that too much light can reduce growth, and at least some plants need a period in shade to grow. It's nice to see a second opinion, but for now I'm keeping the notion of Light being resisted by Grass.

You sir, should start making Sound type fakemon, come on, if you are believing in the Light type, then you should make sound type fakemon. The fakemon you have need more Fairy too!

I plan to make some Fairy-types in the future, but I'll stick to just Light-type for the time being. But who knows? Maybe I could include one more type to balance out the rest of them, and Sound could be a good choice.

Please make fairy and sound types anyway, make sure to have sound types super effective and resistant to types that are logical and make just at the right power, same with what proves them not very effective and vulnerabilities. Make sure to that people will know what is weak to light type moves, what is weak to light other than dark type pokemon?

I already said which ones in one of my replies just now. I thought Fairy was already becoming canon, but I'll definitely take a new type into consideration, though I don't know whether it will be Cyber, Sound, or something else entirely.

Do you mind if I use this? The types stats, not the picture
Its a great Idea, I was debating for a long time about the relationship between dark and light.

However with the light type in general did you know (in pokemon anyway) light type is not the opposite of dark? In reality its fighting. Fighting type is like fighting with honor, Dark type is basically cheating. Dark type consists of mostly moves like Bite, Suckerpunch, theif, etc. So in reality dark and fighting are actually opposites.

The Dark type is indeed known as the "Evil type" in the Japanese versions, which is why many of its moves like Sucker Punch and Feint Attack are more akin to the Combat Pragmatist trope than Casting A Shadow. Though I half thought it was the Psychic type that was the opposite when I was younger because Espeon and Umbreon were meant to be counterparts (telepathy and other paranormal abilities typically require a responsible mindset capable of channeling such), I can see your reasoning with the Fighting type as well. The Light type supports both the Fighting and Psychic types and in terms of folklore is built upon similar ideals. Based on what you've said, I'm suddenly getting the idea that Fighting and Light as counterparts to Ghost and Dark, respectively, in that each pair has a member that's weak to one of the opposite pair (Fighting vs. Ghost, Light vs. Dark), while the other is strong against the remainder (Light vs. Ghost, Fighting vs. Dark), which is actually a really cool idea that I think I may use in the future.

As for using this, I know it sounds a bit hypocritical on my part, but welp, go on ahead! Unlike my fakemon designs themselves, which are intended for my personal use, this is meant as a guideline to the type in general that can apply to any fakemon of that type regardless of whether it's mine or not. I know it's only one interpretation, but it's one of the more balanced ones based on feedback from other fakemon artists. And of course, thanks for asking first - this way, I'll know first-hand whether or not it's a good idea to say yes!

Firstly, I really enjoyed reading this. A lot of thought has clearly gone into it, which I appreciate. Much better than coming across people's new types that are 'super-effective' against everything, because UHGUEIEHU I WANT MY TYPE TO BE THE BEST . I think you've worked well to create a balanced type in places, and you've even given logical to thought to some of the type match-ups. Like saying that Grass both resists and is super-effective against Light, because of its ability to absorb it, which is exactly the same logic I used! Plus, the Grass type definitely needs a boost in type match-ups!
I think we, as with many others, believe the role which Light types should excel in is Support roles, with recovery moves and ways to help out team-mates. Which I definitely agree with.
You're idea of Blindness is interesting, and reflects the fact that some Light attacks should definitely result in some loss of accuracy, which I use too.
Finally some very good attacks there. I love Flash Step (A Light equivalent of Sucker Punch). I think basing new attacks on original ones works very well, and helps people see how they would fit into game play. And the Light/Dark juxtaposition is nice. We even have some very similar attacks in Dash / Light Dash, RainbowBeam / Chromobeam, and SuperLazer / Point-Lazer .!
So in short. Very well thought out, and very interesting to read. I even agree with most of it!
If you haven't already, my little takes on the Light type are here: [link]
Also, if I may, I might pinch you're idea of adding a spreadsheet for my moves (non-Light). I didn't realise you could do that!

If that is all to much to read, just read this: WELL DONE!!!

Thank you kindly! Most of this, I'll admit from the get-go, was influenced by other takes on the Light-type I used for reference. Most of the type matchups were from the particular reference I mentioned in the artist's comments, although I did add a few more just to be thorough, but think about it - the reasoning would be fairly similar based on the properties of light and whatnot. At least in terms of the moves I've noticed that a lot of the similarities can be chalked up to coincidence, especially in your case; a lot of them were in fact inspired by Super Smash Bros Brawl, which is especially noticeable for Angel Ring, Shield Breaker, and Super Laser. The one thing I could cite as being genuinely "new under the sun" in this case would have to be the Blindness effect, but even then I wonder how many other people thought of something similar. Regardless, I truly appreciate your response, as it's good to see that there's more than one person who has similar opinions and ideas to mine at least for this particular fan-type.

With regards to fan-types as a whole, I feel that for Pokemon specifically, a lot of them are not really that necessary, the Light type probably being one of the few exceptions to that rule. I've seen more than a few people take a gander at Cosmic, Nuclear, Magic, and even more abstract types like Chaos. I have not, AFAIK, seen examples of the "Mary-Sue" type you mentioned early in your feedback; then again, I never really looked up the statistics about fake types until I began working on the Light type info for my own Battledex. If I had to give my honest opinion, I think most of these could be work as specific subsets of existing types like Psychic and/or Dark for Cosmic, Poison for Nuclear, Psychic for Magic, and possibly Dark for Chaos. That would be a better option than say, having to create entirely new type matchups and stats for a type that'll probably have only a small amount of representatives, if only because it would be less brain-breaking for Trainers and gamers to manage.

I agree on the whole. I don't think we need any new types. But possibly just one to balance some types again. And if there was room for one, I think Light would be a contender. But the main reason I pursued the idea, was just so I had a theme to start basing some Fakemon and moves on!

An excellent MO if I do say so myself. And yes, I do think Pokemon should introduce the Light type in future generations - they introduced the Dark type in Generation II, so why not the Light one later?

I forgot to mention - You can actually use this as a reference for your own Pokemon as well, as long as you credit me for whatever you think of. Of course this is only one interpretation of the type and you can make your own moves and such, but it's a good idea to keep the properties of light in mind, which is why I'd highly recommend the stuff I came up with for other fakemon artists to use.

I honestly thought the spreadsheet was enough of a guide. You can just download it if you want to know the immediate details such as elemental effectiveness or moves. Though of course I could replace the preview pic in the future with something more interesting.
