Cute boy. He's all chunky. x)
As for his color, I'd say he's a bay more than 'brown', which isn't truly a color.
If he's bay, he can't have ee/aa genetics, because that would make him a chestnut. For bay, his genotype can be one of the following: EE/AA, EE/Aa, Ee/AA, or Ee/Aa. Depending on if he's dominant (homozygous) or recessive (heterozygous) for Agouti (the "A"s) and Red Factor (the "E"s).

For example, if he's "EE/AA", he'll mostly throw bays (it always depends on who he's bred to, though) or bay 'based' horses. Whereas, if he's "Ee/Aa", there are more color options available (like, he could throw chestnuts, black and bays, instead.)

That help a tad?

Hehe. Hurray for chunky! Haha. I haven't updated his genetics in forever. I did it quickly when I was first learning. Thank you! I'll have to remember to change that.

Oooh, lovely work, he looks gorgeous It's so challenging to use pencils sometimes

I have a few questions though about his genetics. I'm a bit of a genetics nerd, so bear with me! Given that once I join my mare in progress up with HARPG, I'm going to want to breed her, and Justin may well be a candidate if you have breedings open!

I'd just like to clarify a couple of points so that if you ever did accept my chestnut sabino arabian mare for breeding, I'd know what we could get! If I bred, I would love to have a chance at ending up with a black sabino foal

I suspect that your stallion could theoretically sire:

Sabino colours to a sabino mare
No markings if bred to a non-sabino mare
Black (50/50 chance if bred to a chestnut-based mare)
Chestnut (recessive gene, will have a chance at producing chestnut if the mare has at least one copy of the red gene)
Bay (50% chance if the foal is black based)
Possible rabicano?

Now, bear with me as I give an explanation. Sorry it's long >.<

You've got:
Homozygous dominant brown
HOrses have two base colours - there is red (e) (recessive) (i.e. Chestnut/brown), and black (E) (dominant). A bay horse is one that has at least one copy of the black gene, as the bay gene only acts on black horses. It blocks the black gene from expressing on the body, whilst still allowing the points to be dark. If a horse does not have the black gene, it cannot be bay. Therefore, your horse is either EE or Ee (one or two copies of the black gene). If he's EE, all offspring will have a black base colour. If he's Ee, he could also produce chestnut base colours.

The bay (agouti) gene is also dominant. It acts on 'E' to restrict the black to the points. If a horse is AA or Aa, it's a bay, and if it's aa, the horse will be black (or chestnut if it doesn't have E)

homozygous recessive for having white blaze; homozygous recessive for white socks

It is believed that sabino genetics are acting on Arabians to cause their blazes and socks, however it's thought that the genes acting are not the same as those that cause sabino on other horses. In other horses, the white colouring is called SABINO-1 and is not present in Arabians. There is no genetic testing for the genes. In arabians, it's believed to be a combination of genes - and the same genes are supposed to cause both socks and blazes, which is why if you look at photos of arabs with big socks, chances are they have at least some white on their face somewhere.

Although the genetics are not well understood for sabino in Arabians, it appears likely that there are a combination of genes that interact, and that the trait is recessive.

So if you bred Justin to a non-sabino arabian, there is a chance you could get markings from a solid mare (but you might not).

If you bred Justin to a sabino arabian, chances are that you would get at least some degree of sabino colouration. That having been said, a foal could always be minimally expressed sabino. That is, it may only have a very small amount of white, such as a hoof, or a star or snip, or even just a small spot of white somewhere.

It is also possible that Justin is a minimally-expressed rabicano, based on his picture. Rabicano's can have white ticking in some parts of the body. In extreme examples, it can look like roan, but in less extreme examples, there might just be a few white hairs.

Yes, I wrote the genetics way before I even learned about them. I have been learning about them this week. I did forget to change that. I should probably change that now.

However that last bit about the Rabicanos I was unsure about, so thank you very much for the explanation and the wonderful comment!

If you are interested later on for a breeding, that would be wonderful. Thank you so much! I will be changing his genetics in a few minutes!

I would definitely be interested in potentially breeding I'll do some looking around to see what's out there and have a think about what I want, but there's definitely a good chance!

awsm! i still can't believe this is done with colored pencils & markers! r u drawin his mate in bio class? the one with 'oh noes! i has 2 legz!' or something like that on it?

Thanks. The one I'm drawing in bio is actually not his mate, but I will be drawing a mate for him soon.

Well, there's this thing called the Horse Art Role Play Game or HARPG and you make a bunch of horse characters and then pretend to "breed" them with other peoples' characters. Then you draw a picture of what you think the cute lil' baby horse would look like. I know a lot people on the DA are involved and i wanted to try it out.

I will be joining it just as soon as I have a couple more horses drawn. I dunno when that'll be, though...
