Description
2nd piece for my encyclopaedia.Merrows are the celtic version of mermaids(though the mermen are ugly, pigfaced fellows). Merrows can often be seen combing their hair, like their GreecoxRoman cousins, the Sirens. Merrows have been known the entrap the souls of drowned soldiers, and keep them in their underwater cities.

This picture is amazing. I've lookedat over a dozen pages of mermen and mermaids here in the past two days and this is among the top ones.
While many do draw well, they make the tail look and bend like human legs instead of bending with a natural curve of a fish. The problem of making the tail bend like human legs is that it makes the merfolk look stiff in the tail. Another problem is that those artists often makes the tail's length same as human leds...making it a stubby tail. -___- That was one problem I has with Disney's Ariel...as pretty as she was, we have to face facts : as a mermaid, she had a stubby tail.
Your pic didn't have to make the tail too long to look wonderful, the long elegant fins make the tail look longer .
This is what I picture a mermaid look likes half the time...the other half, I picture a even longer tail LOL

Cool I didnt know about celtic Merrows! beautiful details on this. The water tracing on her back. I like the play of curves int eh tail fin and the unexpected cropping making her tail frame the background. it looks balinese somehow

Yeah, the tail part was a happy accident, since I didn't know if I was going to have her floating in a solid background, or have a grounded coral scene, so I'm glad I decided to do the reef last minute.

I just thought that a solid background was really boring... I'm not very good at backgrounds, but this one was fairly easy, cause all it is made up of is dots. XD

Thanks Zandra. :3 I think it may have to do with my curvy lines that influence the compositions that I choose... Their are usually pretty circular.
