Description [ The image is self-explanatory, but you can read the description too. Iwouldlikethat. ]
[ and click-click, for full-size ]

Something I've got to solve tonight, figuring out the right (imo) anatomy after much efforts... And felt like it would be worth sharing it here, in a step-by-step sequence, to show how this kind of improvised drawings can happen.

So yes, it only started as a lonely knee, there, because I sometimes enjoy drawing legs in less obvious angles and PoV's (1) .... But then, you see, when that silly initial part was done, I couldn't help my challenge-obsessive mind from thinking further into the problem, and so got myself into the task of solving the rest of her body in a most relaxed and natural way... By now, most of you know that I like my ladies' postures to look natural. And that can often be quite difficult. Anyway (2) was done, too. And I was going to just clean it up, and drop it there, telling myself it was enough of that.... but... wait, what if (3)? .... then (4) and (5).... So gentle looking, wahhhhhh. ยด///`

haha... so, yeah, I'm glad I ever had this compulsive kind of feeling with me, this need, to bring each of my sketches to a completion, to see what are they hiding. Feels like I can bring unsuspected little characters to life, even if only for a brief instant, for one only drawing, one solely glance. Like an unlooked for visitor. : )

Yeaahh.... I've been in a very unusual mood lately.
Anyway, thanks for reading, if you did.

Oh, hey and no, my little friends and occasional visitors, this is not a base, or anything like that. Actually, I think I'll finish this drawing tomorrow -into some decent level of finishing-ness, at least.

feguimel In reply to ninjaneko93 [2012-09-16 14:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Um... if by "reference" you mean an inspirational source for a -new- drawing, then yes, of course you may.

No copying or tracing, though. Firstly, because I don't like it, nor approve anything of it for my art. And secondarily, because you wouldn't learn anything useful that way. ^^

Thanks for asking.

It DEFINITELY lends more realism to the figure!

It's like the difference between seeing a sleeve in a painting or seeing the arm BENEATH the sleeve in a painting

Wow I love this just for the drawing. And also the contact areas YESSS. Would it be ok to use this pose reference for a drawing or no?

feguimel In reply to Winter-Cranium [2012-09-16 15:00:12 +0000 UTC]

Glad you enjoy it.
Um, reference is okay as long as it means only "inspiration" for a completely new drawing. I don't like copying, or tracings, though.

YusakuJon3 [2012-09-16 12:31:22 +0000 UTC]

ย ย  That's an interesting technique in your layout and construction.ย  I'm of the habit of starting with a head or the torso before even getting the rest of figure drawn, so that I end up with this rather warped perspective of a figure that annoys the hell out of me.ย  I've never thought of doing it this way.

ย ย  In terms of completing a sketch, you're nearly the opposite of me.ย  If I'm dissatisfied, I generally scrap the whole thing and start something new.ย  Perhaps I should whip myself into action and make more studies in human anatomy before starting another project, just to see if I can also correct a problem or three.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

feguimel In reply to YusakuJon3 [2012-09-16 15:09:25 +0000 UTC]

I used to do things that way too, a lot. Was only on a later stage that I got more interested in studying the anatomy, and improving my work around it. And then I eventually turned into starting my sketches from body parts, according to the temporal pick of my interest. Could be a hand, a leg, the waist. Anything down from the shoulders.

To grind ourselves onto the same problematic sketch/project until it's solved, can be a good exercise for improving. But it's important to do that only when our mood allows it. I also have times when it feels too frustrating to finish a troublesome part, and then is wiser to leave it alone til later. In any case, the best thing is to keep a positive mind about it. ^_^

Thanks for your comment.

Very amazing... Please do the same with the coloring!! I'm very obsessed with how you guys color....

It's quite impressive how this is more similar to programming than I had imagined... the "comments", the thought process, accidents that turn out nice ideas, etc.

(what in the world is a "base" anyways?)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

feguimel In reply to therealz [2012-09-16 15:25:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that sounds good. I will try to do a similar layout, step-by-step of colors. :3

Haha, yeah. I guess every thoughtful kind of art transits over similar creative roads, at times. And, thoughtful and essentially creative as it is, I believe programming is an art as well (specially when involving videogames).

( "Base" is the term used around here for a kind of free resource. Is when someone would draw a basic figure, unclothed and without characteristic features, -and- expressively allow other people to draw on top of them their own characters or ideas. I personally don't like it, because I believe there isn't much to learn from such a practice. And most often people forgets to credit the creator of the original figure)

therealz In reply to feguimel [2012-09-16 16:02:42 +0000 UTC]

oh wow, yeah sounds like a bad idea, definitely doesn't help the artist learn much...
