I'm doing some concept sketches for a steam punk / Clockwork robot and this is one of the ideas. WIPRelated content

This thing is really impressive. The legs seem a little skinny, but a steampunk mech should be able to pull it off. Can't wiat to see the finished product!

Thanks for the comment LuciousLemons.
The legs will be covered for the most part with plates of iron and such which will act as armor. I just wanted to sketch in and get a feel for what could be going on underneath the armor so that when I add the armor plating it will encase the mechanics. Something like a steampunk or clockwork robot needs to look like it has actual functional mechanical parts underneath the outer shell so I'm trying to sketch out concepts with functionality in mind first, instead of aesthetics and making it look "cool". Including this partial sketch, I have 9 total concepts that I'll be sketching out. Mostly for fun, but I will probably take one of them and model it out. We'll see.

It's great to see that you put so much thought into this design, particularly the functionality of the mech. Based on the little images on the left, I thought you might think of adopting something of a more comical, outlandish design, but I'm very glad you didn't. There's something really awesome about a mech that looks like it actually functions, and while I can't tell too much from this sketch, it looks you've done just that.
I'm excited to see these other designs, and I nominate this one for full modelling.

I'm having fun with them as I go so some of the concepts deviate a bit and move more towards comical or "cool" instead of functional and "real". However I'm approaching the other concepts in a very different way than I normally do.
Normally I will use a large brush with 30% gray or maybe 50% and block out silhouettes then gradually add in details and lineart using gradually darker lines. However as I sketch in some of my other concepts, Ive been sketching in different arms, legs or feet so that each concept has differences between the left and right sides. When I'm done I'll pick and choose the pieces and elements I like and put them together as a whole new concept.
Its a great way to get multiple ideas down without having to create even more silhouettes.
Anyway I'm hoping to have some of my other concepts sketched out later tonight after I get home from work.
