At first I was kinda dismissive because eeeeeevery fantasy map ever always does the two-and-a-half continents, with a visible 'not-Europe', 'not-Asia', 'not-America', and 'not-Africa'.
However, after actually giving it a moment I actually think this is one of the more original world maps I've seen; I particularly like the southern polar continent that stretches beyond the ice; and the slightly Earthsea-like islands scattered absolutely everywhere.

And of course, I love how much detail is put into this; I was particularly impressed with the tectonic fault lines you've drawn in the oceans. Good, believable stuff!

actually it buggs me too that one of the continents looks too much like a not-america.
the overall layout was not my idea I based it of a map from a game (that no one seem to really know, but I guess someone who does will recognize it still, and that bugs me too about the whole thing)
I tried to get away from this over the time but I also didn't want to completely change the layout because the factions and everything were already set at some point and with every reworking I'm struggling with making it look less like my reference from 10 years back... and making that smaller continent look less like america but I still haven't gotten there yet.
I don't know if I should just scrap it completely and do something 100% original.
My whole worldbuilding project got a lot more sophicticated in the last 4 years, but I still haven't completely cleaned it from its I'm bored, lets make a fanfic roots it originated from, and the Map is the one big thing that I still didn't tackle.
Β
And the detail in this thing is another reason that keeps me from just scrapping everything, it took me over a year for only the physical map. I don't really know if I should even continue working on this.

omg sorry if this outburst of discontentment annoys you... after writing this I really feel like I should just scrap it all and finally tackle my map problem

Haha no need to apologise!

I think perhaps what might be an idea, at least in the meantime, is to focus on the aspects of what you've made that you DO like.
Having done plenty of world building myself I've scavenged so many parts of various, originally completely different, worlds to make something I'm actually quite fond of. I've gone through ideas, and kept a stash of them in a constantly growing folder. Maybe rather than scrapping everything, you could aspect on other aspects of what you like about it - certain regions you like the idea of and want to develop their cultures etc. If you spend a bit of time working on something other than getting the overall world EXACTLY how you like, and come back to this map after a while you may find that you feel way more confident in what you wanna do.

I certainly wouldn't suggest scrapping it all! And about being 100% original; nothing is EVER 100% original, hell Tolkien stole 90% of his stuff from anglo saxons and it worked out rather well for him. As you build the world it starts to become far more original, it becomes your own thing; from what I can see yours already seems to have done that!
In the world(s... ish) I've made, all I see is loads of things I'veΒ taken and adapted from other creators, but when I bring it to somebody and ask what they think they've praised me for the worldbuilding I've succeeded in getting across (in my case in the form of a novel) - and they know the stuff I've taken ideas from. Hell one of my major characters is almost completely ripped off one of my favourite books and she's probably the best part of my book xD
It's just one of those things where the artist is never happy with his own work - I get so much support for my writing (wow now I just sound like I'm bragging) but all I can see is something that's okaaaay... Maybe.

Also, keep in mind I stopped to comment BECAUSE I thought your map was much more original than the vast majority of others I've seen ^^ Good job bud, should be proud of it!

I never meant to scrap the whole worldbuilding but the geography as it is on this map, the rough layout would probably stay the same, because it is lore already, south won't become north all of a sudden.
I guess my main problem is that is isn't really MY map it's my just my interpretation of someone other's map, and I realized I really wanna change that.
Thats a goodΒ  advice to first look at what I like about it and what I'd want to keep and not get stuck on what I hate about it.

This is a very well designed map. I love that you payed attention to the way shifting continental plates and spreading oceans shape a world.

well what you see is 2 years of occasionally working on it...and it's only part one of like 4 until it's finished.
as for the style I looked a lot at real maps how mountains look and all this to give it this feel
